Rock lands six on Academic All-District team

Slippery Rock landed six players on the Academic All-District team and advanced four players to the Academic All-America ballot when the College Sports Communicators announced the 2025 Football Academic All-District team Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University football team placed six players on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team and will have four players advance to the Academic All-America ballot according to an announcement from CSC Tuesday.
 
In order to be eligible for nomination to the Academic All-District team, student-athletes must be at least sophomores in athletic eligibility and academic standing, must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA for all undergraduate and graduate classes and must appear in at least 90 percent of the team's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games. In order to be advanced to the Academic All-America ballot by the national committee, student-athletes must have significant athletic credentials, such as earning All-Conference, All-Region or All-America caliber awards.
 
Slippery Rock landed six players on the Academic All-District squad with offensive linemen Luke Pugliese and Eli Podgorski, safety Michael Henwood, linebacker Teddy Gregory Jr., receiver Ethan Trettel and longsnapper Joey Reed being recognized.
 
Pugliese, Podgorski, Henwood and Gregory will advance to the national ballot for the Academic All-America team after they were all moved forward by a national committee. Henwood is looking to become a two-time Academic All-American after earning second team honors last year, while the other three SRU honorees are looking for their first career Academic All-America award.
 
Henwood is now a three-time Academic All-District honoree and Pugliese is a two-time honoree. The other four SRU selections pick up their first career Academic All-District honor.
 
The Academic All-America teams will be announced Jan. 27.
 
A brief look at the accomplishments of each of The Rock's six Academic All-District selections can be found below.
 
TEDDY GREGORY JR – LINEBACKER
Gregory earned second team All-PSAC honors this fall after ranking second on the SRU roster in total tackles, despite missing two games with an injury. He tallied 61 total stops, 2.0 tackles for loss and a half-sack. Gregory also recorded two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception and four pass breakups on the year. He entered the fall semester with a 3.728 GPA after 68 credit hours in the mechanical engineering program. Gregory was also named to Academic All-PSAC honors this fall.
 
MICHAEL HENWOOD – SAFETY
Henwood was named to second team All-PSAC honors this fall after leading The Rock in total tackles with 67 and solo stops with 42. He also tallied a team-high two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Henwood,  who was named to second team Academic All-America honors last year, was a semifinalist for the William Campbell Trophy this fall. He entered the season with a perfect 4.0 GPA after 126 credit hours in the exercise science program. Henwood was also named to Academic All-PSAC honors this fall.
 
ELI PODORSKI – OFFENSIVE LINE
Podgorski picked up second team All-PSAC honors in his first year as a starter on the offensive line after playing every game at the left guard position. He helped block for All-American running back JayJay Jordan, who finished the year with 1,375 rushing yards in just 10 games. The Rock offense rushed for 218 yards per game and scored just over 32 points per game on the year. Podgorski already earned his undergraduate degree from SRU with a 3.517 GPA in computing analytics with a minor in leadership. He entered the fall with a 3.750 graduate school GPA after 12 credits in the master's degree program in data analytics. Podgorski was also named to Academic All-PSAC honors this fall.
 
LUKE PUGLIESE – OFFENSIVE LINE
Pugliese earned first team All-PSAC honors after starting every game this season at the right guard position on the offensive line, extending his streak to 24 consecutive starts after not missing a single game in 2024 or 2025. He helped pave the way for JayJay Jordan to have an All-America season and become the first SRU running back with more than 1,000 yards in a season since 2018. Pugliese entered the fall with a 3.745 GPA after 106 credit hours in the safety management program. He was also named to Academic All-PSAC honors this fall.
 
JOEY REED – LONGSNAPPER
Reed served as the long and short snapper for the SRU special teams unit in every game this fall, helping The Rock to go 43-of-44 on PAT kicks and average 39.3 yards per punt with no blocked punts on the year. In addition to his role on the football team, Reed is also a PSAC scorer in the javelin on The Rock track and field team. He entered the fall with a 3.921 GPA after 98 credit hours in the health care administration and management program with a minor in economics. Reed was also named to Academic All-PSAC honors this fall.
 
ETHAN TRETTEL – RECEIVER
Trettel snagged five passes for 57 yards and averaged 11.4 yards per catch in a reserve role on the offense. He also played on most special teams units throughout the fall and finished with a pair of special teams tackles. Trettel entered the fall with a  3.619 GPA after 97 credit hours in the sport management program while minoring in marketing and business administration. He was also named to Academic All-PSAC honors this fall.
