Slippery Rock enters Saturday at 13-7 overall and 6-6 inside the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. The nationally ranked Golden Knights are 18-2 overall and 11-1 in PSAC matchups.

LAST TIME OUT
SRU dropped a close 82-75 overtime decision on the road at Edinboro. Gannon overcame a slow start at home to beat Clarion, 91-73. Both games were held Wednesday.

PSAC WEST STANDINGS SNAPSHOT
The PSAC West is beginning to separate into two factions entering the final game in the first half of the conference's round-robin schedule.

• Gannon and California continue lead the pack in the Western Division standings with matching 11-1 league records.

• Indiana (Pa.) sits comfortably in third place at 9-3, two games in front of fourth-place Seton Hill (7-5).

• The bottom portion of PSAC West standings sees a single game separating fifth and eighth place as Slippery Rock and Edinboro enter the weekend tied for fifth via identical 6-6 league marks while Pitt-Johnstown and Clarion are on the cusp of catching The Rock and Fighting Scots with a pair of 5-7 conference records.

• The top six teams in the Western Division standings at the end of the regular season qualify for the PSAC Tournament. The first and second seeds in the standings earn first-round byes and a home game in the quarterfinal round while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds are guaranteed home games in the first round.

Slippery Rock has qualified for the PSAC Tournament in eight of the last nine years.

EDINBORO RECAP
Slippery Rock erased an 11-point deficit with six minutes to play in regulation to force overtime, but couldn't complete its comeback bid in an 82-75 loss Wednesday at Edinboro.

SRU once again had to play from behind for most of a game. Edinboro built a 14-point advantage through the opening 15 minutes of the game and The Rock spent the rest of regulation erasing the deficit including a 14-3 run over the final 5:51 of the second half to force overtime in the eventual seven-point loss.

Slippery Rock closed the night shooting 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the field overall and 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from 3-point range, but just 66.7 percent (14-of-21) at the foul line.

Edinboro shot 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the field overall and 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from distance while converting 17-of-22 (.773) free throw attempts. The Fighting Scots held a +4 (43-39) rebounding margin while scoring 20 points off 12 Rock turnovers.

ROCK WINS vs. RANKED FOES AT MORROW FIELD HOUSE
A victory over Gannon would mark The Rock's 13th win over a ranked team inside Morrow Field House since 1989. Slippery Rock's last home victory over a team that was in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Top 25 poll was an 89-72 triumph over a 13th-ranked California (Pa.) squad during the 2023-24 season. SRU earned the win behind a 36-point showing from Ike Herster.

If The Rock were to beat Gannon it would represent SRU's third-highest ranked win inside Morrow Field House: Slippery Rock has previously claimed wins against No. 3 IUP in 2018-19 (74-69) and No. 4 Gannon in 2008-09 (82-72).

MAYO SCORING IN BUNCHES
Freshman guard Brady Mayo entered The Rock's starting lineup for the 12th time this season, and first time since Jan. 2, in the Edinboro game. The local product out of Beaver High School responded by going for a season-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers, as well as a near flawless 4-for-5 effort at the foul line.

The Edinboro game was the latest in a string of double-digit scoring performances from Mayo, who also had 13 points at Seton Hill and 12 against California in the last two weeks. He has shot 15-of-32 (.469) in those three contests, including going 10-for-15 (.667) in 2-point field goal attempts.

A starter in 12 of 20 games to this point in his rookie year, Mayo has produced per game averages of 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals. He's also converted 54-of-64 free throw attempts (.844) and is on pace to close the year with the best free throw percentage (minimum 60 attempts) in a single-season by an SRU athlete since William Johnson shot 87.8 percent (115-for-131) at the foul line in 2004-05.

Top Single-Season FT% at SRU (Min. 60 Attempts)
t6. Larry Deemer (1969-70): .848 (167-197)
t6. Myron Brown (1989-90): .848 (167-197)
8. Brady Mayo (2025-26): .844 (54-64)

PRINCE CONTINUES TO EMERGE
The Edinboro contest also saw the latest in what is becoming a long run of great showings from Kerwin Prince. The senior forward turned in a 16-point, seven-rebound, three-assist, one-steal night against the Fighting Scots.

Making the strong statistical outing more impressive is when Prince did his damage. He shined when The Rock needed him most as he accounted for 10 of SRU's final 14 points in the second half, including the overtime-forcing basket with 14 seconds left in regulation. He also scored the first points of overtime before eventually fouling out with the game deadlocked at 72-72.

Since officially joining The Rock's starting rotation five games ago, Prince has averaged 12.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals a contest while shooting 62.2 percent from the field with two double-doubles included in the run.

Despite having only played in 14 of The Rock's 20 games this season, Prince has still grabbed a team-high 43 offensive rebounds on the year, as well as the second-most total rebounds (115).

GIVNER TIED FOR 3RD in D2 ROOKIE SCORING
After scoring 15 points at Edinboro, Dame Givner remains ranked among the best freshmen scorers in all of Division II.

Givner, who has scored at least 20 points on six occasions this year, enters the Gannon game at 326 points on the year overall on an average of 16.3 points per game.

Givner is tied for third in all of Division II in total points scored by a freshman while slotting eighth in rookie points per game. Far from a one-dimensional athlete, Givner also provides SRU with 3.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Also of note about the freshman scoring list, of the top-10 leaders in points per game Givner is one of just three athletes to be on a team with a record of at least five games above .500.

D2 Freshman Scoring (Total Points)
1. Lazerek Houston (Central Missouri): 447
2. Brogan Madson (Sioux Falls): 351
t3. Dame Givner (SRU): 326
t3. Rowan Carmichael (Edinboro): 326
5.  Ayden Goll (Wheeling): 315

D2 Freshman Points Per Game
Athlete (Team, Record): PPG
1. Lazerek Houston (Central Missouri, 15-7): 21.3
2. Will Fowler* (Converse, 6-9): 20.9
3. Carter Bobbitt* (North Greenville, 10-8): 18.7
4. Brogan Madson (Sioux Falls, 11-9): 17.6
5. Ayden Goll* (Wheeling, 11-7): 17.5
6. Danny Delgardo III (Fort Valley, 9-8): 17.4
7. Rowan Carmichael (Edinboro, 10-9): 17.2
8. Dame Givner (SRU, 13-7): 16.3
t9. Rashawn Inglemon (Anderson, 18-1): 16.1
t9. Zundra Jackson (Coker, 1-18): 16.1
*Redshirt Freshman

Givner's 326 points already represent the sixth-highest point total scored by a freshman in Slippery Rock history. If he meets his current scoring average vs. Gannon he would pass both Troy Mild (1980-81) and Jamar Scales (2005-06) to move into fourth place on the list. Program legend Myron Brown holds The Rock's freshman scoring record with 516 points in 1987-88.

THE ROCK'S FACILITATOR
RJ Sledge added three more assists to his resume at Edinboro to go with eight points, five rebounds, two steals and only two turnovers. Since entering The Rock's starting rotation nine games ago, Sledge has distributed 37 assists (4.1 apg) while committing 21 turnovers (2.3 tpg) for a 1.76 assist-to-turnover ratio, up from his season ratio of 1.6 that ranks 10th in the PSAC. As a scorer, Sledge has shot 40.6 percent (26-for-64) from 3-point range this year.

CONSISTENT REBOUNDING BY JAMES
While there are not guarantees in life, it's a safe prediction that Isaac James will get SRU at least six rebounds every time he takes the court. In addition to being a 10.4 points per game scorer, James has collected six or more rebounds in 14 of his 20 games played. He averages 6.7 rpg on the year.

ROUNDING OUT THE ROTATION
• Veteran swingman Sheick Samoura has split his time between being a starter (six games) and key reserve (13 games) for The Rock this season on the way to averaging 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. He ranks second in the PSAC with 22 total blocks.

Braylon Littlejohn played a career-high 26 minutes against Edinboro as part of a six-point, four-rebound performance. Littlejohn has averaged 4.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field in his first seven collegiate games.

• When The Rock needs to utilize a big lineup or use a reserve forward it turns to the duo of Mack Staunch (1.7 ppg / 1.5 rpg) and Enire Bowens (0.7 ppg / 1.3 rpg).

HAVE TO GET GOING AT THE FOUL LINE
In its first 13 games of the season, 11 of which were wins, Slippery Rock made 73.3 percent (239-for-326) of its foul shots. However, in the last seven games – of which there have been five losses – SRU has converted just 60.5 percent (75-for-124) of its attempts from the foul line.

WIN THE GLASS, WIN THE GAME
Slippery Rock is 12-2 when holding a positive rebounding margin. SRU is ranked third in the PSAC in total rebounding (39.7) and fourth in rebounding margin (+4.9). The Rock will have to be at their best on the defensive glass this weekend as Gannon comes to Morrow Field House ranked leading the nation in offensive rebounding (17.95 orpg). SRU has typically been strong this year in terms of defensive rebounding, ranking fifth in the PSAC at 26.0 drpg.

MAKING THE MOST OF SECOND CHANCES
Slippery Rock has logged double-digit second chance point totals in 16 of 20 games this season. SRU is currently averaging 13.8 second chance points per game this season, well up from its 2024-25 average of 11.7.

It's of no coincidence that four of The Rock's six worst second chance point totals in a single-game this season have resulted in losses. SRU is 10-4 when earning 11 or more second chance points in a game, but just 3-3 when closing a contest with 10 or less.

Over the last six seasons only one other Rock team has averaged more second chance points per game than this year's team: Slippery Rock produced 13.9 second chance points per game in 2021-22.

Second Chance Points Per Game at SRU (Last 6 Years)
1. 2021-22: 13.9
2. 2025-26: 13.8
3. 2019-20: 13.2
4. 2022-23: 12.2
5. 2024-25: 11.7
6. 2023-24: 11.6

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MISTAKES
Through 20 games, SRU is scoring 15.5 points off turnovers per game, which if maintained through the end of the season would represent SRU's fourth highest such average over the last 12 years. Slippery Rock could have a decent number of chances on scoring off Gannon miscues as the Golden Knights ranks 10th in the PSAC in turnovers per game (14.5). SRU's 12-year for points off turnovers per game was 17.8 in 2018-19.

GET A LEAD, KEEP A LEAD
Slippery Rock is a perfect 13-0 in 2025-26 when holding a lead or being tied at halftime, but 0-7 when trailing after 20 minutes.

MORROW MAGIC
Since 2008-09, SRU is an outstanding 184-61 (.751) at Morrow Field House. SRU has now recorded a winning record at Morrow Field House for 14 of the last 15 seasons. Across the PSAC, SRU ranks fourth in both home winning percentage and in total home wins since 2008-09.

KEEP IT UNDER 80
Slippery Rock is a perfect 12-0 when holding opponents to under 80 points, but just 1-7 in high-scoring (80+) contests. SRU will likely need to buck this trend to beat Gannon as GU has scored under 80 points just twice this season - wins over Daemen (79-61) and Millersville (74-70).

SPECIAL EVENTS GALORE ON DECK
The final month of the regular season will not be without excitement at Morrow Field House as the Slippery Rock Athletic Department has a jam-packed schedule of special events for its remaining home games.

SINGLE-GAME FRESHMEN SCORING AT SRU
SRU's talented freshmen class have been scoring at a rate that's been virtually unheard of for rookies at The Rock over the last quarter century.

This year's roster has accounted for eight of the 17 20-point games scored by a freshman at The Rock since the 2001-02 season (the furthest back game-by-game statistics are available)

Dame Givner has reached the 20-point threshold six times, with Elijah Hill and RJ Sledge notching one each. The most points scored by a freshman at The Rock since 2001-02 was Givner's 39 at Lock Haven.

Givner's 39 points vs. Lock Haven is the best single-game total by a freshman in DII this year, the sixth best by a rookie in the entire NCAA.

HERSTER CLOSING IN ON SCORING MILESTONE
Ike Herster enters the weekend needing to score five points to become the 26th athlete in program history to score 1,000 points in a Rock uniform.

While Herster is nearing SRU 1,000-point milestone, he's already scored 1,366 points in the totality of his college career between his time at SRU and Gannon.

His 995 points in a Rock uniform also represent the sixth highest point total by a transfer to come to SRU in program history. Herster also ranks seventh in program history in career 3-pointers with 116 - seven away from passing Jared Armstrong (2018-20) for sixth place.
