FAIRMONT, W. Va. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team concluded its opening weekend of the 2025 season Saturday at the Fairmont State Classic in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Â
The Rock opened the day with a three-set loss to Palm Beach Atlantic University (25-18, 25-22, 25-16) before falling to host Fairmont State University in four sets (16-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-22).
Â
SRU returns home with a 1-3 record while Palm Beach Atlantic moves to 3-1. FSU closes the Classic a perfect 4-0.
Â
Slippery Rock's offensive production Saturday was led by

Â
Defensively,
Addison Jones collected eight blocks (one solo / seven assisted) through the two contests while
Lauren VonderHaar compiled seven (one solo / six assisted). Spurred on by a career-high tally against Fairmont State,
Kara Pasquale made 37 digs in her seven sets of competition.

SRU posted an impressive .326 attack percentage in the opening set with VonderHaar and Annis each going for five kills early on.
Â
However, Slippery Rock was unable to keep its momentum as the Falcons took the following three sets to close out the home victory.
Â
After trailing by as many as six points on two occasions, SRU trimmed its deficit to just one point at 18-17 in the second set only for FSU to hold off the comeback bid by taking seven of the final nine points for a 25-19 win. The Falcons proceeded to post 25-11 and 25-22 set victories to end the night.
Â
Annis led a trio of Rock athletes with double-digit kill totals against FSU after compiling a career-best 16 on an efficient .209 attack percentage to go with eight digs and one block.

Paityn Krause (20) and Yost (19) guided The Rock's offense with 39 total assists on SRU's 47 kills. Â
Â
The Rock's defense, which closed the FSU match with 10 total blocks, featured Jones at six rejections (one solo / five assisted) and Pasquale with 29 digs – her second 20+ dig match of the weekend.
Â
