SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team dropped a narrow five-set decision (25-22, 9-25, 25-13, 18-25, 18-16) to Shippensburg University Saturday at Morrow Field House.
The non-conference loss drops The Rock's record to 7-7 overall while the visiting Raiders improve to 7-6. Saturday's loss was SRU's second consecutive five-set match. Of SRU's seven loses in 2025, four have come in five sets.
Lauren VonderHaar continued her standout senior season by turning in a 13-kill, 10-block (two solo / eight assisted) double-double. On the attack, VonderHaar hit a stellar .312. Additionally, the 10 rejections Saturday moved VonderHaar past Erin Green (2000-03) and into fourth place on SRU's all-time block list with 328.
Callie Chevalier and
Ava Haynes added nine kills apiece with Haynes posing five blocks (one solo / four assisted) and Chevalier chipping in four (one solo / three assisted). Chevalier also made 13 digs.
Victoria Nalbach (8),
Emry Rumbaugh (7) and
Kaitlyn Danszczak (7) rounded out The Rock's attack with 22 total kills between the three.
Jaeden Yost distributed 24 assists with
Paityn Krause adding 18 alongside 12 digs for a double-double of her own.
In addition to making a match-high 27 digs,
Kara Pasquale served three of Slippery Rock's six aces. Krause, Yost and
Marley Annis served SRU's other three aces.
For the match, Slippery Rock held advantages over the Raiders in kills (55-53), attack percentage (.169-.124) and total blocks (13-10). Each team served six aces while Shippensburg edged The Rock in digs (88-83).
Shippensburg was led by Isabelle Bombas, who recorded 13 kills and six blocks (3 solo / 3 assisted),
SRU continues its five-match homestand when it steps back into the PSAC West portion of its schedule 6 p.m. Oct. 3 against Seton Hill University.
