Rock suffers loss at District of Columbia, 3-2

Despite a two-assist day from Cornelis Dedecker, the Slippery Rock men’s soccer team fell to 2-1-0 with a 3-2 loss at the District of Columbia.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a two-assist day from Cornelis Dedecker, the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team fell to 2-1-0 with a 3-2 loss at the University of the District of Columbia.
 
The Rock are now 5-3-2 in their last 10 non-conference games, but 1-6-3 in their last 10 non-conference road games. The Firebirds improved to 3-0-0 on the season overall.
 
Zsombor Retfalvi and Kaden Reynolds combined for the two Rock goals, the second of the season for each player, while Dedecker earned an assist on both goals, upping his assist total to four on the year.
 
Troy Nine made his second start of the season and made two saves, while surrendering three goals.
 
The Firebirds opened the scoring via David Serra. Anania Belay and Ignacio Lopez grabbed assists on the opening goal.
 
Slippery Rock responded with Reynolds' second goal of the season, off a pass from Dedecker in the, tying the game 1-1.
 
The Rock then took a 2-1 lead just a couple minutes later with Retfalvi's second tally of the year, again off a pass from Dedecker.
 
With halftime lurking, the Firebirds would find an equalizer from Jose De Souza De Aquino.
 
Slippery Rock took an 8-4 shot advantage and 3-2 shot on goal edge into the break.
 
With the match nearing toward a draw, Serra found the back of the net again to give the Firebirds a 3-2 lead, which they would hold onto for the rest of the game.
 
The Rock finished the game with a 15-11 edge in shots, while the two teams tied with six shots on goal apiece. 

Slippery Rock will stay on the road and head to Rochester, New York to face-off against Roberts Wesleyan University 3 p.m. Wednesday.
