Igims, Hurd named to PSAC Spring Top 10 team

Slippery Rock student-athletes Anna Igims and Alexsa Hurd were named to PSAC Spring Top 10 honors Thursday in recognition of their athletic and academic excellence.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University distance runner Anna Igims and softball utility player Alexsa Hurd were named to Top 10 honors when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its Spring Top 10 team Thursday.

The Rock's two selections this spring tied with Gannon and Lock Haven for the most selections in the PSAC and give SRU a total of seven Top 10 winners in 2024-25, tying for the most in a single academic year for the institution (2023-24 and 2016-17 each had seven as well). Since the inception of the Top 10 program in 1994, Slippery Rock has seen a league-high total of 90 student-athletes recognized as Top 10 honorees (all-time SRU list here).

The PSAC Top 10 recognizes five men and five women in each of the three sports seasons throughout the academic year and celebrates excellence in the classroom and in competition. Each school can nominate two men and two women for the award, which is voted on by the league's athletic communication professionals. To be eligible, students must be at least sophomores in academic and athletic standing, must own a cumulative GPA above 3.50 and must have significant athletic achievements. The spring award winners are selected from the following sports: baseball, softball, women's lacrosse, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track & field.

Igims, a graduate student from Pittsburgh, earns her fifth consecutive Top 10 honor and completes a yearly sweep in 2024-25 after also being named to the fall and winter teams. She becomes just the ninth student-athlete from any sport in PSAC history with at least five Top 10 awards. Igims is tied for third all-time in PSAC history with her five selections, trailing only the six by former SRU track & field standout Sabrina Anderson and current SRU assistant track & field coach Tabitha Bemis, who starred as an athlete at Edinboro.

Hurd, a senior from Suffield, Ohio, picks up her first career Top 10 recognition.

GPA: 4.0 (graduate school) / 3.98 (undergraduate)
Major: Applied Behavioral Analysis (grad) / School Wellness Education (undergrad)
Minor: Public Health

Igims graduated from SRU last May with a 3.98 GPA in school wellness education with a minor in public health. She returned to The Rock for graduate school and posted a 4.00 GPA in her first full year as a graduate student in the applied behavioral analysis program. The Spring Top 10 selection marks her fifth consecutive Top 10 honor after also being named to both the winter and spring teams last year and the fall, winter and spring teams this year. Igims is also an Academic All-American and will be an eight-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. She was also the only female athlete in the PSAC to receive the NCAA Division II 50th Anniversary Scholarship last year.

Igims put together a year of dominance in 2024-25, going undefeated in PSAC competition and leading Slippery Rock to three team titles along the way. This spring, she broke SRU records in the steeplechase (10:17.13) and the 5,000-meter run (16:38.85) on her way to winning three PSAC individual titles. She took top honors at the conference meet in the 1,500-meter run, 5K and steeplechase to score 30 individual points while helping SRU to the 2025 PSAC team title for a year-long sweep. She was named both the Most Outstanding Track Athlete and the Overall MVP of the PSAC Championships after scoring more individual points than any other athlete, male or female, at the meet. Igims closed out her career at the National Championships, where she repeated as a first team All-America honoree with a seventh place finish in the steeplechase finals. In 2024-25, she won seven PSAC titles and was named the Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year in two different sports.

ALEXSA HURD – Softball, Senior

Major: Early Childhood Education
Minor: Special Education

Hurd closed her senior season at Slippery Rock this year with a 3.92 GPA after completing 126 credit hours while majoring in early childhood education with a minor in special education. She was named to Academic All-District honors for the third straight year and will be a three-time NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete and four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

On the field, Hurd closed her career as the best overall player in Slippery Rock program history by leading The Rock to the best season in program history, winning the PSAC Western Division for the first time and reaching the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament before closing the year with 29 wins. She was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Year and picked up first team All-Region honors as a utility/pitcher after ranking seventh in the country during the regular season with an SRU record 243 strikeouts in 161.0 innings pitched. Hurd struck out 10.57 batters per seven innings to become the only player in program history to average nine or more strikeouts per game. In addition to her pitching excellence, she also led all players in the Atlantic Region with an SRU record 16 home runs at the plate. She also led the team with 48 RBI, which ranks second in single-season history at SRU. Hurd leaves The Rock ranked No. 1 all-time in career hits, doubles, home runs, RBI and pitching wins, while ranking No. 2 all-time in strikeouts thrown, innings pitched and No. 3 in runs scored, games played, games started and total pitching appearances.
