SHAYLYN SHINING BRIGHT
Shall became the first SRU freshman to be named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week in seven years March 31 after posting a .450 batting average (9-for-20) through a 5-1 week that came with a team-leading 10 RBI.
Â
The true freshman, who primarily serves as Slippery Rock's designated player, is an early-season contender to compete with Slippery Rock's all-time freshman class records. Courtney Vincent batted .409 in 2007, the best freshman batting average in SRU history.
Â
Shall is currently leading the team batting .391, trying to become the first Rock softball freshman to hit over .350 since Katie Kaiser (.373) in 2013. In conference play, the Aliquippa, Pennsylvania native has batted .424 and slugged .545, totaling an OPS of 1.080 with 15 RBI.
Â
NUTTER MAKING NOISE
Nutter, Slippery Rock's senior first baseman from Columbiana, Ohio, has played some of the best softball of her career in PSAC West competition this season. In that span, Nutter has batted .469, slugged 1.188 and produced an on-base rate of .528.

Â
RICE CLOSING IN ON 200
Slippery Rock head coach
Stacey Rice needs just four additional wins to reach 200 career victories, earning her 196
th in the split with IUP.
Â
Rice became the all-time wins leader in Rock softball history earlier this season with a 3-2 extra-innings win over the University of Sioux Falls March 9.
Â
Among active coaches in Division II, Rice's 196 wins rank her 13
th in the Atlantic Region and second in the PSAC West.
Â
A DREAM START TO CONFERENCE PLAY
Slippery Rock's 8-2 record in PSAC West competition is the program's best start in conference play in 42 years. Jan Kasnevich led the 1983 team to a 9-1 conference record as well as a win in the PSAC Tournament.
Â
What makes SRU's entrance into league play even more impressive is that it has come with one of the program's best in-season turnarounds. The Rock got back from Florida with a 4-12 overall record and have since won 10 of their last 12 games to reach 14-14.
Â
