LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University standout
Hunter Loomis was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Â
Loomis earned the honor, the first such accolade of his SRU career, for his role in The Rock's 2-0 shutout of division-leader California in game two of an eventual series split between SRU and the Vulcans.
Â
The senior from Warren, Pennsylvania registered seven strikeouts of 5.2 scoreless innings while giving up just five hits and one walk.
Â
Only one of the Vulcans' four hits went for extra bases against Loomis, who allowed just one runner into scoring position following the first inning before turning the game over to
Mark Wilbur, who closed out the shutout victory.
Â
Loomis' performance against California is the latest in what has become a lengthy string of great outings during his career year. Over 10 appearances in 2025, Loomis has gone 4-1 with a 2.43 ERA and a .236 opponent batting average while striking out 36 batters and allowing just 13 walks over 37 innings pitched.
Â
Slippery Rock enters the final week of the regular season with a 29-15 overall record and a 15-9 mark inside the PSAC West.
Â
SRU is currently scheduled to play a non-conference game 7 p.m. Tuesday against Point Park University at Critchfield Park before a final four-game conference series with Seton Hill University. The Rock travels to SHU for two games Thursday before hosting the Griffins for a doubleheader Friday.
