Hurd (14-5, 1) became the first player in Rock softball history to reach at least 200 strikeouts against IUP, now with 201 Ks through 130.1 innings. Her 10.8 strikeouts per seven rank third in Division II. Hurd enters the final stretch of the regular season with a 2.74 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.

Â
Mackenzie Borkovich (3.77 ERA, 13.0 IP) and
Alexa Uphold (2-2, 7.16 ERA, 14.2 IP) round out Slippery Rock's pitching staff with a combined nine strikeouts on the year.
Â
WHERE THEY STAND
While Slippery Rock cannot clinch its first PSAC West title in history Thursday, it
can guarantee a top-three seed in the PSAC Tournament by defeating Gannon. The top three seeds of the five teams that qualify from each division are given first-round byes in the winners' bracket.
Â
Regardless of how Slippery Rock's final few games of the regular season shake out, The Rock will be heading to Quakertown, Pennsylvania to compete in a third consecutive PSAC Tournament for the first time since 1984.
Â
Slippery Rock enters Thursday, April 24 with a 2.5-game lead over Seton Hill on top of the PSAC West standings. The Rock have never finished higher than third in the PSAC West in the modern PSAC softball era.
Â
HAPPY SENIOR DAY
Slippery Rock's 2025 season class will go down as undoubtedly one of the most talented groups of student-athletes the SRU softball program has ever graduated at one time. Prior to Friday's doubleheader against Cal, The Rock will honor the seven student-athletes taking part in their final season.
Â
#4 Julia Montie will likely leave Slippery Rock having started in and appearing in more games than any other player in program history. The centerfielder from Johnstown, Ohio will also finish her career ranking in the program's top 10 in doubles, home runs and RBI. Montie will be graduating with a degree in physical activity and fitness management with a minor in wellness.
Â
#6 Jeanna Sukey has excelled in a variety of roles for Slippery Rock, playing all three outfield positions and often providing a baserunning spark. Sukey will also graduate from Slippery Rock ranking in the top 20 all-time in career stolen bases. The outfielder from Chardon, Ohio will be receiving a degree in healthcare administration with a concentration in finance management as well as a minor in psychology.
Â
#8 Arielle Brown has stood out as a force to be reckoned with as Slippery Rock's primary leadoff batter and go-to shortstop throughout the past four years. She'll leave Slippery Rock as the program's all-time leader in walks drawn as well as by holding SRU's single-season runs record from 2023. A native of Galena, Ohio, Brown will be graduating with a degree in business management.
Â
#10 Alexsa Hurd will go down as one of the greatest players Slippery Rock softball has ever seen and more than likely the greatest utility player Rock softball has ever had. The three-time All-PSAC West honoree and 2023 consensus All-Region selection ranks in the top 10 of nearly every hitting and pitching record there is to find. Originally from Suffield, Ohio, Hurd will graduate with a degree in early childhood education with a minor in special education.
Â
#12 Naomi Childs of Boise, Idaho has served as an incredible representation of the Gem State in Slippery Rock's outfield for the past four years. Additionally, Childs has been a reliable asset for The Rock's offense, one of the greatest batters in the conference at laying down a sac-bunt. Childs is graduating from Slippery Rock with a degree in physical activity and fitness management.
Â
#17 Julia Nutter has served Slippery Rock well as the teams' everyday first-baseman. She did not take long to start racking up slugging numbers worthy of the record books once a consistent batting order spot was earned. The Columbiana, Ohio product ranks in the top 10 all-time in home runs and has produced more multi-home run games than anyone else at SRU. She will be graduating with a degree in exercise science.
Â
#71 Emma Kennedy has without a doubt been of the best catchers in the PSAC West throughout her four-year stay at The Rock. Her offensive production has only gone up with time, and her keen defensive abilities have secured multiple wins for SRU. Hailing from Monroeville, Pennsylvania, Kennedy will be graduating from Slippery Rock with a degree in interdisciplinary studies in leadership with a minor in special education. Â
Â
ALEXSA NEEDS A RECORD DEAL
Hurd has already broken the Slippery Rock single-season strikeouts record this year, but has the opportunity with five regular season games left to surpass several more program-highs:
Â
• With 147 RBI, Hurd needs seven to break Jessica Kortz's all-time record of 153
• With 38 home runs, Hurd needs three to surpass head coach
Stacey Rice's record of 40.
• With 181 hits, Hurd needs six to snap Rice's all-time record of 186.
• With 37 wins in the circle, Hurd needs three to break
Kelsi Anderson's record-39 wins set just last year.
• With 14 wins on the season, Hurd needs just one more to become the first SRU pitcher with 15 wins in a single year.
Â
A TON OF HOME RUNS
Slippery Rock has now recorded 39 home runs on the season while only allowing 10 and is 11 homers shy of tying its single-season record (50) set last year. There are only 20 teams in Division II who are averaging more than Slippery Rock's 0.95 home runs per game.
Â
In the conference, Hurd leads all players with 11 home runs. Nutter ranks just behind her in fourth with 10. All 10 of Nutter's home runs have come against PSAC West opponents, lending their way to an .887 slugging percentage and a team-leading 1.338 OPS against conference opponents.
Â
Montie, who joined Hurd with launching crucial seventh-inning home runs to secure the sweep at IUP, ranks third on the team with seven home runs on the season and a slugging percentage of .511.
Â
TAKING EXTRA STRIDES
The Rock stack up second in the PSAC with 1.63 stolen bases per game, thanks in large part to Goldhardt and
Arielle Brown. Of the 67 stolen bases Slippery Rock has earned this year, Goldhardt (23) and Brown (17) have accounted for 59.7 percent of the team's total.
Â
Shall leads Slippery Rock with a .477 on-base percentage ahead of Brown's .473. Brown is second in the PSAC and fifth in the country with 0.79 walks drawn per game, while Shall is being walked 0.53 times per game, 11
th in the conference.
Â
Williams (.455), Goldhardt (.438), Childs (.404) and Kennedy (.404) are all major contributors to Slippery Rock's .369 on-base percentage as a team.
