Howes named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Redshirt junior guard Luke Howes represented the Slippery Rock men’s basketball team on the 2024-25 CSC Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Luke Howes represented the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team on the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
 
To be eligible to earn CSC Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must own a cumulative GPA above 3.50 and have significant athletic credentials. Additionally, athletes must have competed in 90 percent of their institution's games or have started in at least 66 percent of its contests.
 
A redshirt junior guard out of Fairview Park, Ohio, Howes carries a 3.60 GPA while having completed 136 hours towards his bachelor's degree in health care administration and management. Howes has been named to the Dean's List in two of his first three full semesters at SRU.
 
On the court, Howes had a career year this season. A starter in 24 of his 26 games played, Howes recorded per game averages of 10.0 points, 3.3 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 43.9 percent from the field overall and 76.3 percent at the foul line. He was one of three Rock athletes to average at least 30 minutes of playing time per game as well.
 
The Rock's point guard ended the year ranked sixth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in assist-turnover ratio (1.8), 13th in assists and 22nd in steals.
 
Since transferring to Slippery Rock from Walsh University before the 2023-24 campaign, Howes has appeared in 56 of a possible 59 games with 54 starts. Over his two-year SRU career, Howes has compiled 488 points, 170 assists and 70 steals. With one year of eligibility remaining, he ranks 24th in program history for assists in a career.
 
Howes helped lead Slippery Rock to a 15-14 overall record and a PSAC Tournament berth in 2024-25. SRU has now recorded seven consecutive winning seasons and has qualified for the conference tournament in each of the last eight years the event has been held.
