Rock rolls to 17-1 win at Findlay in opener

Slippery Rock cruised to a 17-1 win at the University of Findlay Sunday to pick up a win in its season opener for the 16th straight year.

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and rolled to a 17-1 victory on the road at the University of Findlay Sunday in the 2025 season opener.
 
The Rock open the season with a 1-0 record for the 16th consecutive year and improve to 4-0 all-time against Findlay. The Oilers slip to 0-2 on the year.
 
Notre Dame (Ohio) transfer Grace Rotter took less than five minutes to net a hat trick with three goals in the first 4:47 to open the flood gates. The Rock extended the lead out to 10-1 at halftime and pushed the game into a running clock situation early in the second half.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 42-7 in shots, 12-8 in draw controls and 32-14 in ground balls. The Rock were 12-of-14 on clear attempts and limited Findlay to just 7-of-16 on the clear.
 
Leora Owings returned to the starting lineup after missing the entire 2024 season with an injury and led the SRU attack with four goals and one assist. She also pulled down a team-high four draw controls. Rotter tallied three goals and one assist in her SRU debut and Eryn Little also added a hat trick with three goals.
 
Maddie Blazey and Abby Fink each scored one goal and handed out two assists. Reagan Richeson tallied two goals and Erin Melcher handed out two assists to go along with a team-high five ground balls to round out the players with multiple points.
 
The Rock got one goal each from Ava Dossier and defender Paige Jenkins, who scored her first career goal on a coast-to-coast breakaway. Freshman Cadyn Eismann also tallied one goal to mark the first of her collegiate career. Krysta Frankowski and Isabella Buono rounded out the point scorers with one assist each.
 
Ava Drath made the start in goal and picked up the win after tallying one save and allowing one goal in the opening half. Lily Ventresca played the second half and slammed the door with four saves and no goals allowed.
 
Findlay got its lone goal from Karissa Allbright, who also finished with a game-high five draw controls. Josie Owens took the loss in goal after allowing 15 goals while making 15 saves over the opening three quarters. Rachel Esselstyn played the final period and allowed two goals with one save.
 
Slippery Rock will now turn its focus to the home opener next Saturday, March 1, when D'Youville visits for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
