RECORDS
Slippery Rock and Glenville State both enter Tuesday's game with matching 3-1 records. At 0-5, D'Youville is looking for its first win in 2025-26.

• Slippery Rock pushed the fifth-ranked team in the country to the brink before Fairmont State University was ultimately able to fend off a spirited Rock upset bid with a close 93-89 win at Joe Retton Arena.

• Glenville State captured its second straight win with a tight 68-67 victory vs. Bluefield State University.

• D'Youville lost on the road at Indiana University (Pa.), 94-66.

FAIRMONT STATE RECAP
Slippery Rock erased a 16-point first half deficit to take a lead with 5:48 remaining in regulation, but fifth-ranked Fairmont State was able to stave off SRU's comeback bid in a 93-89 victory Nov 22.

SRU closed the game shooting 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the field overall, including a season-best performance from 3-point range (45 percent / 9-of-20). SRU also finished a solid 75 percent (24-of-32) at the foul line. The Rock made a near season-low 14 turnovers.

Fairmont State overcame a 7-for-22 (.318) effort from 3-point range to still shoot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) overall. Fairmont State's late clutch foul shooting boosted the Falcons' free throw percentage to 63.2 percent (24-for-38).

LIGHTS NOT TOO BRIGHT FOR THE ROOKIES
Slippery Rock's true freshmen trio of Dame Givner, RJ Sledge and Brady Mayo proved more than up for the challenge of playing a top-flight team in a tough road environment at Fairmont State.

• Givner led the way with 21 points. He went 6-for-12 from the field overall, including a 4-of-7 showing from 3-point range, while also converting 5-of-6 free throw attempts.

• Sledge came off the bench to dish out four assists while scoring 11 points.

• Mayo posted nine points as well as grabbing six rebounds, making two steals and passing out two assists.

• All three first-year players have been vital to The Rock's early success so far this year. Givner is SRU's leading scorer at 15.8 ppg on shooting percentages of .467 overall, .412 from 3-point range and .778 at the foul line. Sledge leads SRU in steals (8 / 2.0 spg) while also scoring 9.3 ppg with Mayo right behind at 8.8 ppg and 1.8 spg.

GETTING TO 4 AT 5
A victory over Glenville State would give The Rock a 4-1 record through their first five games for the 40th time in the program's 115-year history, but only the second time since 2014-15.

While there were wins against non-Division II schools in four of the most recent six times SRU started the season 4-1, this year's mark would all come against fellow NCAA D2 members if The Rock were to beat Glenville State.

5-1 SOUNDS NICE TOO
If Slippery Rock sweeps the week with wins over Glenville State and Sunday at D'Youville, it would enter the month of December in possession of a 5-1 record for the 29th time in program history.

SNAPPING THE HOLIDAY HOOPS SLUMP
Thanksgiving week has been unkind to The Rock in recent years. Over the last four seasons, Slippery Rock has gone just 2-5 in games played during the week of Thanksgiving. SRU has gone 0-2 in each of the last two years during Thanksgiving week.

SRU on Thanksgiving Week Last 4 Years
2024-25: Lake Erie (L, 103-82), USC Beaufort (L, 70-64)
2023-24: Daemen (L, 86-62), Hawaii Pacific (L, 76-74)
2022-23: Daemen (W, 82-60), Charleston (W, 73-59)
2021-22: Charleston (L, 78-72)

NON-CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
Dating back to the 2008-09 season, SRU has posted a 61-13 record (.824) in non-conference games at Morrow Field House as well as a 104-54 (.658) mark outside of the PSAC overall.

MOST POINTS BY A FRESHMAN IN AWHILE
Dame Givner's 24-point showing against Wheeling marked the most points scored by a freshman (true or redshirt) at The Rock since the 20025-06 season when three rookies (Eroll Robinson, Jamar Scales and Matt Hale) all logged at least 25 points once.

Three of the 12 20-point games scored by a freshman at The Rock since the 2001-02 season (the furthest back game-by-game statistics are available) belong to Givner (2) and redshirt freshman Elijah Hill (1).

15 STRAIGHT FOR MAYO
Slippery Rock freshman Brady Mayo is a perfect 15-for-15 from the foul line this season. Mayo needs to make his next two foul shots to move into a tie with former Rock point guard, and current lead assistant coach, Jon Valeriano for 10th place on SRU's all-time consecutive free throws made ledger.

The Record for consecutive free throws made at The Rock belongs to Larry Deemer, who made 45 straight foul shots in 1969-70.

HERSTER HITS 3-POINTER #100
Ike Herster became just the third Rock athlete to make 100 triples in the last 14 years - along with Amante Britt (112 / 2018-23) and Jared Armstrong (124 / 2018-20) – after going a perfect 3-for-3 from distance against Fairmont State as part of a 14-point, five-rebound effort versus the Falcons.

Herster, who has produced per game averages of 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game this season while shooting 42.9 percent from the field overall, 36.4 percent from 3-point territory and 77.3 percent at the foul line, is now tied for 10th with former Rock great C. Russell for career 3-pointers made at SRU (101).

Additionally, Herster is also 120 points away from scoring his 1,000th point in a Slippery Rock uniform. His 880 points at Slippery Rock are the eighth most scored by a player to transfer to SRU all-time.

SAMOURA DOUBLING UP
In what is becoming a re-occurring trend this year, Sheick Samoura registered two blocks against Fairmont State as part of a solid 11-point, two-rebound, two-rejection night against the Falcons. Samoura has now blocked two shots in three of The Rock's four games this season (West Virginia Wesleyan, Wheeling and Fairmont State).

Samoura enters the week ranked second in the PSAC in both total blocks (7) and blocks per game (1.8). The early rejection surge has also vaulted Samoura up to 20th in program history for blocks in a career with 49.

ROCK REMAINS AMONG D2'S BEST IN REBOUNDING
Through four games, Slippery Rock has averaged 44.50 rebounds per game which ranks 19th out of 288 Division II teams. The Rock's +8.8 rebounding margin also ranks 39th in the country while SRU's 16.00 offensive rebounds per contest is the 22nd highest average in D2.

Only one member of The Rock's typical rotation averages under 3.0 rebounds per game. Isaac James (9.0 rpg) leads Slippery Rock's effort on the glass. A true do-it-all forward, James also scores 10.0 points per game while distributing 3.5 assists a contest to go with his rebounding exploits.

Elijah Hill (5.5) and Ike Herster (5.3) are both over 5.0 rebounds per game as well followed by the grouping of Mack Staunch (4.0), Brady Mayo (3.8), Sheick Smoura (3.3), Dame Givner (3.3), Maceo Austin (3.0), Braylon Littlejohn (3.0) and Enire Bowens (3.0).

STAUNCH ON THE OFFENSIVE GLASS
Mack Staunch pulled down four offensive rebounds at Fairmont State. He has had multiple offensive rebounds in three of four games this year.

ROUNDING OUT THE ROTATION

Elijah Hill has averaged 10.3 ppg on an extremely efficient 69.6 field goal percentage while grabbing 5.5 rebounds a contest.

Braylon Littlejohn has made big contributions in his first season as the Butler High School product is averaging 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 80 percent from the field in his first two collegiate games.

Mack Staunch provides The Rock with 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per night.

THE ROCK vs. THE MEC
Since the Mountain East Conference's formation in 2013, Slippery Rock is a healthy 20-10 (.667) against MEC teams, including an 11-3 (.786) record when hosting its regional foes at Morrow Field House. Slippery Rock is 3-1 against schools from the MEC this season. Glenville State is SRU's final regular season contest against an MEC school this year.
