EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost on the road at No. 4 East Stroudsburg University, 3-1, Saturday.

With the loss, Slippery Rock's record moves to 3-6 overall and 0-3 inside the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference while the nationally ranked Warriors improve to 8-2 overall and 1-2 in PSAC competition.

Leading Slippery Rock Saturday was Riley Cloude, who scored her first collegiate goal. Grace Williams assisted on Cloude's score while Madison Shomo recorded one shot to round out SRU's offensive leaders. Williams' assist was her second of the season.

Goalkeeper Emily Newton made eight saves over 60 minutes of playing time.

After the completion of a scoreless opening quarter, the Warriors recorded five second-quarter shots, but Newton stopped two of the attempts while the other three were off target to keep the game scoreless before Williams found Cloude for the day's first goal at 29:17.

However, SRU was unable to hold on to its one-goal advantage heading into halftime as ESU's Emma Friend found the game-tying goal with just six seconds remaining in the second quarter.

East Stroudsburg went on to register the go-ahead goal 29 seconds into the third quarter followed by an insurance tally in the 58th minute on the way to a two-goal victory.

For the game, the Warriors held advantages over The Rock in total shots (20-2), shots on goal (11-1) and penalty corners (12-1). Minke Klijn and Elaiana Rivera-Lagal each had one goal and one assist in the victory.

Slippery Rock steps out of PSAC play when it returns home to host Roberts Wesleyan University 3 p.m. Oct. 8 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
