Rock drops tilt at No. 16 Gannon

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team dropped a road tilt, 7-0, at No. 16 Gannon.

ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team dropped a road tilt, 7-0, at No. 16 Gannon University.
 
With the loss, The Rock dropped to 6-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division, while Gannon's record improved to 9-2-4 overall and 6-0-2 in the PSAC West.
 
Slippery Rock is chasing Lock Haven University for the third and final PSAC Tournament spot for the Western Division. Lock Haven picked up a 3-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown earlier today. With the win, the Bald Eagles now have 15 points (4-1-3) and moved five points clear of Slippery Rock. Each teams have two regular season games remaining.
 
Kaden Reynolds led Slippery Rock with three shots, each reaching the goal. Zsombor Retfalvi (2) and Colton Swanson (1) rounded out the SRU shot takers.
 
Alvey Kaufman made two saves in the loss.
 
With a chance to open the scoring, Reynolds was one-on-one Gannon goalkeeper, Andre Moraes, on the right wing, but had his shot saved as he tried to beat the goalkeeper on the bottom left corner.
 
A few minutes later, Reynolds found himself with another opportunity on a free-kick on the left corner of the 18-yard box. He took the opportunity straight on goal, but the goalkeeper came up with another save.
 
Gannon took a 1-0 lead on a Manuel Pereyra goal with assists from Shota Toyama and Rafa Hyde. The Golden Knights were able to capitalize off a set piece from a corner kick.
 
Gannon entered halftime with a 7-4 lead in shots, but Slippery Rock had a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Gannon added six goals in the second half via Hyde with two goals, Pereyra with two more goals to complete his hat-trick, while Giorgi Adamia and Sverre Orten getting involved in the scoring with one goal each. 

Gannon ended the match with a 20-6 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.
 
Slippery Rock will stay on the road with a match 1 p.m. Saturday at California (Pa.). The Rock will look to complete the season-sweep over the Vulcans as they claimed a 3-0 win over California earlier this season at James Egli Field.
