SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team downed Daemen University in a non-conference matchup at James Egli Field, 2-0 behind a brace from
Kaden Reynolds.
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 5-5-1 on the season, while Daemen falls to 1-12-0 overall.
Reynolds scored both goals for The Rock, this is the second game in a row that he has found the back of the net. Reynolds upped his team-leading goal tally to six in 2025.
Zsombor Retfalvi and
Aashi Pandher both registered one assist for the second consecutive game. Retfalvi now has a four assists, which puts him in a tie for the team lead in assists with
Cornelis Dedecker. Pandher now sits with three assists on the season.
Reynolds and Pandher led SRU with three shots as Dedecker,
Gabin Lonjard,
Patrick Tierney,
Ryan Hanes, and
Colton Swanson all recorded two shots.
Colton Spence and
Gerard Lopez Marti rounded out the SRU shot takers.
Troy Nine started his second game in a row and earned the victory with one save in the 45 minutes he played.
Alvey Kaufman started the second half and
Dylan Bliss subbed in to finish the game.
Tierney had the best scoring opportunity on either side in the first half as he put a header off the crossbar from a corner kick by Lonjard.
Slippery Rock took a 7-3 shots advantage into halftime. Both teams registered one shot on goal in the opening half.
The Rock finally broke through the Wildcats' defense in the 70
th minute. Retfalvi held the ball up on the right wing and sent a pass through the defenders that Reynolds took in stride and put the shot past the goalkeeper with his left foot, giving Slippery Rock a 1-0 lead.
SRU doubled its lead in the 81
st minute after Pandher ran up the left wing, passing the ball to Reynolds in the middle. Reynolds took a couple steps to his right to shake off the defender and slotted his shot past the diving goalkeeper, giving Slippery Rock a 2-0 advantage.
Slippery Rock finished the matchup with a 18-4 edge in shots and 5-1 advantage in shots on goal, closing out its 2-0 victory with its second consecutive shutout.
Slippery Rock resumes Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play at Pitt-Johnstown 12 p.m. Saturday.
