Slippery Rock University Athletics

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match to Edinboro in three sets (28-26, 25-15, 28-26) Friday at Morrow Field House.
 
The divisional setback moves The Rock's record to 9-8 overall and 2-2 inside the PSAC West, while the Fighting Scots improve to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in conference competition.
 
Slippery Rock was led on the night by Callie Chevalier, who recorded a team-best 11 kills as well as two blocks. Lauren VonderHaar and Emry Rumbaugh chipped in six kills apiece with VonderHaar also totaling three blocks (two solo / one assisted).
 
Rounding out SRU's attack leaders with three kills each was the trio of Addison Jones, Ava Haynes and Gwen McCarthy. Jones and Haynes both posted two blocks as well.
 
Paityn Krause distributed a match-high 23 assists while serving three aces, making four digs and even coming up with a kill. Libero Kara Pasquale made a team-high 12 digs defensively.
 
The opening set was a back-and-forth outing that featured 13 ties and six lead changes. Both teams played their way into set-point scenarios in the opener, but ultimately it was the Fighting Scots that capitalized on a Rock attack error and Faith Schneider kill for a 28-26 win.
 
SRU took the opening five points of the second set to force a Edinboro timeout. However, the remainder of the set belonged to the Fighting Scots as Edinboro accounted for 25 of the following 35 points out of the break on the way to a 25-15 victory.
 
The third set of the evening was reminiscent of the opener with the two evenly matched teams combining for 14 ties and seven lead changes. Still, Edinboro was once again able to eke out the narrow 28-26 win as the final two points of the match went to the visitors on a Makayla Neelands kill and Maggie Koster block.
 
For the match, Edinboro held advantages over The Rock in kills (44-37), attack percentage (.287-.113), aces (6-3), total blocks (12-7) and digs (48-37). Reilly Parent paced the Fighting Scots' effort with 17 kills, four aces and 15 digs.
 
Slippery Rock closes out its five-match homestand 2 p.m. Saturday against Gannon University at Morrow Field House.
