Slippery Rock won five PSAC Team GPA Awards with men's and women's track & field, women's lacrosse, field hockey and volleyball owning the highest GPA in their respective sports among all schools in the PSAC in 2023-24. SRU had 14 teams post a higher GPA than the PSAC average.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Five Slippery Rock University teams finished the 2023-24 academic year with the highest team GPA in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, earning SRU five PSAC Team GPA Awards in an announcement from the league office Wednesday.

The Rock led all current PSAC institutions with five team GPA Awards, trailing only the recently departed Mercyhurst (7) for the most among the 2023-24 PSAC institutions. SRU student-athletes also posted the highest average GPA among all current institutions in the PSAC at 3.458 and trailed only Mercyhurst (3.518) for the highest average GPA among the PSAC schools in 2023-24.

The five Slippery Rock teams that posted the highest GPA in their respective sports were field hockey (3.647), women's lacrosse (3.714), men's track & field (3.380), women's track & field (3.641) and volleyball (3.720).

The women's lacrosse team and men's track & field team have now won three consecutive PSAC Team GPA Awards after also leading the league in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

The Rock women's cross country team posted the highest team GPA among all SRU teams this year at 3.735, which was one of eight SRU teams to record a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Slippery Rock's student-athletes ranked second overall in the PSAC in cumulative student-athlete GPA following the 2023-24 academic year with a 3.458 GPA. The only institution that finished with a higher average was Mercyhurst (3.518), which has since left the PSAC. Slippery Rock was the only school in the PSAC to place in the top two in average GPA and the Dixon Trophy standings, which SRU won this year as the top overall Athletics Department in the PSAC.

SRU had a school record 285 total student-athletes recognized earlier this week as PSAC Scholar-Athletes for owning a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. That number includes 177 females and 108 males for a total of 56.3 percent SRU's 506 total student-athletes. The Rock have 49 student-athletes that currently own a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Slippery Rock finished the year with 14 of its 15 teams (indoor and outdoor track & field are combined for this count) owning a cumulative GPA above the league average for their respective sport and 12 of its 15 teams ranking in the top five in the PSAC in their respective sports.
