Rock ties program wins record in 24-4 win over Edinboro

The Rock women's lacrosse team tied the program record for single-season wins and locked up the No. 2 seed in the PSAC Playoffs with a 24-4 win over Edinboro Wednesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team tied the program record for single-season wins with a convincing 24-4 victory over Edinboro Wednesday evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The win improves The Rock to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division and locks up the No. 2 seed in the PSAC Playoffs. The No. 2 seed is the highest for the program since SRU brought the sport back in 2007. SRU will host its first-ever PSAC playoff game next Tuesday against No. 3 seed Lock Haven with first draw set for 4 p.m.

Edinboro (2-14, 0-11 PSAC) scored the first goal just 38 seconds into the game, but Slippery Rock responded with nine straight goals to take a 9-1 lead after the first quarter. The Rock pulled most of their starters late in the first quarter and played every active, healthy player on the roster in the game. A total of 28 players appeared in the game with 14 recording points.

Abby Fink led the attack with a career-high six points on five goals and one assist. Shannon Von Kaenel added a career-high four goals, Lauren Searles scored two goals and two assists, Isabella Buono added three goals and Maddie Blazey scored one goal and handed out three assists.

Ava Dossier scored two goals and had one assist, Eryn Little had one goal and two assists, Ella Koslowski scored one goal and one assist and Camryn Whipple added one goal and one assist to round out the multiple-point scorers. Whipple's assist gives her 37 on the year, tying the single-season record set by Emily Benham in 2022.

Reagan Richeson, Charleigh Rondeau, Krysta Frankowski and Brooke Wisniewski all scored one goal and Sydney Ulmer handed out one assist to cap the point scorers. Rondeau also had six draw controls in limited minutes, which brings her season total to 148 and breaks her own SRU record of 144 that she set last spring. She now has 508 career draw controls.

Nicole Masi paced the defense with three caused turnovers. Gillian O'Rourke picked up a win in goal to tie the program record for single-season wins by a goalie (13). Lily Ventresca recorded three saves in 30 minutes in goal before Izzie Sutton closed out the final quarter.
