Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University football team closed its spring workouts with the annual Green vs. White Spring Game Friday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium with the Green Team picking up a 34-29 win over the White Team.

The game format was played with the defense in green starting each half with 17 points for a total of 34 points and the offense in white starting from zero and scoring points traditionally. Each quarter was 10 minutes in length with a running clock in the second half.

The offense struck early with a splash play on the second play from scrimmage when tight end Kam Kruzelyak caught a pass in the backfield and connected with Xander McClure on a 61-yard strike for the first offensive points of the game.

The offense finished the night with 418 total yards on 81 plays for an average of 5.16 yards per play. That included 331 passing yards and 87 rushing yards.

The defense controlled long stretches in the middle of the game and finished the night with 12 sacks and two interceptions.

"It was fun to come out and compete in front of a nice crowd tonight," said head coach Shawn Lutz. "We got out of the spring without any major injuries and we learned a lot about our team. We know who our top guys are going to be in the fall, so we didn't run much of the playbook for the starting offensive unit tonight, but it was good to get some of the younger guys some reps. We're excited for the fall season."

Five different quarterbacks played with the offense and they combined to go 23-of-35 for 331 yards. Brayden Long was 8-of-14 for 61 yards with two interceptions in the first half. David Bahm went 6-of-8 for 74 yards and one touchdown, Jackson Bouslough was 3-of-5 for 54 yards and Brad Hoffman was 3-of-5 for 57 yards. Ben Moore rounded out the QB play with one completion for six yards.

Josiah Jordan looked strong at the running back position and finished with five carries for 42 yards with one touchdown, which was a 38-yard scamper through contact. He also caught two passes for 50 yards to finish with 92 total yards. Mel Carter rushed for 25 yards, Eryck Moore-Watkins ran for 23 yards and one score and Chris D'Or ran for 19 yards on just four touches.

John Sabo caught four passes for 96 yards including a highlight reel grab off a tipped pass. Ethan Trettel grabbed four passes for 18 yards and one TD. Kruzelyak caught three passes for 24 yards and Kylon Wilson caught three passes for 17 yards.

The Rock made one field goal in the game with Jake Mullins booting a 49-yarder in the fourth quarter.

The defense got interceptions from Joshua Hayes and Tyree Johnson and two sacks each from Hayes, Todd Hill and Jake Baker. Elijah Halley, Eddie Faulkner IV, Daniel Tooson, Teddy Gregory Jr., Mehki Twillie and Nick Frisco all recorded one sack. Halley, Faulkner and Hayes finished with six tackles each, while Pooh Lawton, Kenyon Johnson and Davion Daniels each had five tackles.

Slippery Rock will now shift focus to offseason summer workouts before reporting for preseason camp in August. The Rock will open the 2024 season at home against Northeast 10 Conference champion New Haven Sept. 7 with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
