SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 and picked up a win in its home opener for the 12th straight season with a 20-5 victory over the University of Findlay on a rain-soaked Wednesday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Oilers saw a two-game winning streak snapped to drop to 2-2 with the loss, while The Rock improve to 2-0 with a pair of convincing wins to open the season. SRU is outscoring opponents 38-8 through two games.

Slippery Rock scored the first four goals of the game and never trailed, putting the game into a 10-goal running clock situation with 9:10 left in the second quarter. The Rock would take a 12-1 lead into the break before adding four goals in both the third and fourth quarters.

Lauren Searles and
Camryn Whipple led the SRU attack with nine points each. Searles tallied six goals and three assists, reaching 50 career goals with her sixth tally of the day. Whipple scored three goals and handed out six assists, which moved her up to No. 10 all-time at SRU with 34 career helpers.

Freshman
Isabella Buono scored her first collegiate hat trick with three goals.
Maddie Blazey and
Brooke Wisniewski also scored two goals apiece and
Rachel Mahoney tallied two goals and one assist.
Krysta Frankowski handed out two assists and
Charleigh Rondeau added one goal and one assist to round out the players with multiple points.
Ella Koslowski closed out the scoring with one goal.

In addition to the two points, Rondeau was dominant in the draw circle with 10 draw controls. Her skill in the circle led to SRU winning the first 12 draw controls and finishing the game with a 22-4 advantage on the draw.

The Rock defense limited Findlay to 7-of-13 on clear attempts with
Hailey Ohlsen leading the way with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Gillian O'Rourke played the first half in goal and allowed just one goal before being relieved at halftime.
Izzie Sutton played the final 30 minutes and made one save. O'Rourke was credited with the win, bringing her career total to 25 and tying Emily Bitka for the program record for wins by a goalie.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 34-9 in total shots, 22-4 in draw controls and 17-12 in ground balls.

The Oilers were paced by Madeline Shewbridge with two goals and one assist and Tessa Chuba with two goals. Olivia Bakowski made six saves in goal.

Slippery Rock will now shift its focus to another home non-conference game with Frostburg State set to visit Saturday for a noon start.
