Rock falls at Clarion, 82-64

The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team suffered an 82-64 road loss to PSAC West opponent Clarion Wednesday.

CLARION, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team suffered an 82-64 road loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent Clarion Wednesday.
 
The loss moves The Rock to 2-20 overall on the season and 2-17 through conference play. The Golden Eagles snapped a 26-game winless streak with the victory, now at 1-25 this year and 1-19 in the PSAC.
 
Kristina Donza led Slippery Rock on offense with 17 points while Regan Atkins put together her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The true freshman found the bulk of her points at the free throw line in a 10-of-13 (.769) effort.
 
The Rock saw career-highs in scoring from both Deryn Moye (14) and Hallie Raabe (7), while Duda Raimundo contained a personal-best seven rebounds in addition to six points and two assists.
 
Kaylin Venick wound up with five points and joined Raimundo in earning two assists. Atkins, Moye and Raimundo all came away with a block to their name.
 
A 16-4 run through the opening six minutes propelled Clarion to a wire-to-wire lead that began with a 20-10 advantage after the first quarter. Donza made three 3-pointers in the first half of the contest, but Clarion was able to pull away to a 41-30 halftime lead after going 8-of-18 (.444) from beyond the 3-point arc.
 
After Atkins gave The Rock the first three points of the second half, Clarion scored 20 of the game's next 24 en route to pulling away with the 18-point margin.
 
Clarion ended the game with the upper hand from the floor making 31-of-68 (.456) shots, going 12-of-29 (.414) from distance. The Rock shot 18-of-57 (.316) overall and 7-of-29 (.241) from the 3-point line.
 
SRU took advantage of 24 total Clarion fouls, converting 21-of-31 (.677) times at the free throw line. The Golden Eagles went 8-of-13 (.615) at the foul stripe and managed a 49-35 rebounding edge. Clarion's offense featured three scorers in double figures, led by Malayziah Etheredge's 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
 
Slippery Rock will return home for two games in five days beginning 1 p.m. Saturday with SRU's annual whiteout game against Indiana University (Pa.). The Rock will also be supporting Play4Kay in their Breast Cancer Awareness Game Saturday at Morrow Field House.
