SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division home game to Pitt-Johnstown Saturday, 75-44, at Morrow Field House.

Saturday's loss drops The Rock's record to 2-19 overall and 2-16 inside the PSAC West while the visiting Mountain Cats improved to 15-10 overall and 10-9 in league competition to keep their PSAC Tournament hopes alive.

One of the top freshman in the Atlantic Region,
Regan Atkins scored a team-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field overall as well as a near perfect 5-for-6 effort at the foul line to go with six rebounds and two steals. Atkins has now recorded 19 double-digit scoring performances on the year.

Kristina Donza, who was recognized in a pregame ceremony as part of The Rock's 2023-24 Senior Day celebration, was SRU's second athlete in double figures with 12 points.

Niya Moore (1) rounded out SRU's leading scorers with Venick also pulling down six rebounds and passing out three assists. Defensively, Raabe drew five fouls.

Pitt-Johnstown scored 14 of the game's first 17 points to take an early double-digit lead it would never relinquish as the Mountain Cats closed the first quarter ahead 21-5. While SRU did play much better in second quarter to outscore Pitt-Johnstown, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

UPJ went on to close the first half with a 14-point advantage before steadily adding to its lead throughout the second half on the way to the eventual 31-point victory.Â

Slippery Rock shot 33.3 percent (15-of-45) from the field overall and 68.4 percent (13-of-19) at the foul line. Pitt-Johnstown countered by hitting 55.4 percent (31-of-56) of its field goals, including seven 3-pointers. The Mountain Cats also scored 27 points off 17 SRU turnovers and 20 second chance points by way of 11 offensive rebounds.

Lexi Margolis paced Pitt-Johnstown's efforts with 17 points. All 11 UPJ players to see the floor scored points Saturday.

Slippery Rock will now hit the road for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff Feb. 21 at Clarion. The Rock defeated the Golden Eagles in a 62-60 comeback victory Jan. 24 at Morrow Field House.
