LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team lost its second game of the season away at Lock Haven University in a narrow 1-0 loss Wednesday. The Bald Eagles netted a penalty kick goal in the 47
th minute, which ended up as the game-winner.
The Rock fall to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Bald Eagles improve to 2-1-1.
Slippery Rock was outshot on the afternoon, 10-7.
Aitor Jorde led SRU with a career-high three shots. Of The Rock's three shots on target, Jorde placed two of them.
Aashi Pandher, while playing only 28 minutes off the bench, recorded two shots, one of which was on net.
Arturo Pla Hernandis and
Ignacio Rullan both contributed one shot each.
The Rock defended well against six Lock Haven corner kicks and allowed only six shots on goal, due in large part to the efforts by
Gabin Lonjard and
Jeroen Van Der Veen.
Adam Davies tied his career-high in saves with five, coming off nine shots faced.
Neither side could get much going offensively in the first half, with shots only being 3-3 at the half. In a first half where four of the day's seven cards were shown, each team took three corner kicks.
Quickly into the second half, the Bald Eagles were awarded a corner kick. While the inswinger was sent in, some physical play in the box warranted a penalty kick. Just 1:25 into the second half, Alex Neal placed the penalty well, scoring his first career goal.
Following the penalty kick, Slippery Rock was able to produce four shots, but none that ended up in the net. The Rock did stand strong defensively against Lock Haven's seven additional shots, with Davies recording three second half saves.
Slippery Rock returns home 3 p.m. Saturday to face Shippensburg University. The Rock fell on the road to the Raiders, 3-0, a year ago. The program's 90
th anniversary will be celebrated Saturday by honoring the 2023 Ring of Honor class at halftime.
