Frederick signs second professional contract

Former Slippery Rock men’s basketball standout Tyler Frederick recently signed his second professional basketball contract with the Kordall Steelers of the LBBL, the top division of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Former Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout Tyler Frederick recently signed his second professional basketball contract with the Kordall Steelers of the LBBL, the top division of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation.

The upcoming season will mark Frederick's second year as a professional. A year ago, Frederick competed for BAL Limburg in the BNXT League which was made up of first division teams from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Prior to suffering an injury, Frederick started seven of his eight games played for Limburg as a rookie and produced per game averages of 7.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and just under one steal per game while playing 25 minutes a contest.

The LBBL season opens in Sept. 23. Frederick's new club will start the year against Mambra Mamer.

A forward from Butler, Pennsylvania, Frederick transferred to Slippery Rock prior to the 2021-22 season following a standout career at Division III La Roche College. Frederick quickly adapted to the step up in competition to become one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's top post players.

Frederick started 23 of 28 games for The Rock in 2021-22 while averaging 14.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in addition shooting 52 percent from the field overall, 39 percent from 3-point range and 72.9 percent at the foul line. Frederick, who recorded 13 double-doubles at SRU, ranked second in the PSAC in rebounding and eighth in field goal percentage in his lone season at The Rock.

For his efforts, Frederick received second team All-PSAC West recognition. On the national stage, Frederick's 4.0 offensive rebounds per game was the sixth-highest total in all of Division II.

Thanks in no small part to Frederick's performance, Slippery Rock finished the 2021-22 season with a 17-12 overall record for what was its 12th winning season in the last 13 years while making the PSAC Tournament for the fifth straight year and the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.

Since 2009, Slippery Rock has had a total of 24 men's basketball players sign professional contracts in various international leagues.
