WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches and picked up a key Atlantic Region victory with a 5-2 win over West Liberty University Saturday in a match played at Washington Park.

The win improves The Rock to 10-6 overall and gives SRU another key victory over a highly ranked team in the Atlantic Region. West Liberty, which slips to 11-4 overall, joined Slippery Rock as two of the nine teams from the region that were listed in the first set of regional rankings released by the NCAA earlier this week, making both teams NCAA Tournament contenders.

Slippery Rock opened the match by shifting its intended plans for doubles after a protest. The Rock moved
Gabriela del Val del Toro and
Nuria Martin Lopez up to the No. 1 doubles position and dropped
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and
Georgie Lancaster down to the No. 2 spot.

SRU earned the doubles point by picking up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Tina Slovak and
Dari Sakhanova made quick work at No. 3 with a 6-0 win over Jaqueline Pena-Aceves and Nathalia Valencia.

West Liberty leveled the doubles at one win each with a win at the No. 1 position when Emma Arnal and Gemma Cliffe took down del Val del Toro and Martin Lopez 6-4.

The Rock clinched the doubles point at No. 2 when Lancaster and Gonzalez Sanchez closed out a 6-4 win over Evelina Martirosyan and Ishija Agarwal to put Slippery Rock up 1-0 heading to singles.

Slippery Rock won each of the first three singles matches to finish to push the score to 4-0 and lock up the win.

The first to finish was del Val del Toro at the No. 2 position. She posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Martirosyan to extend the overall score to 2-0.

Martin Lopez pushed the advantage out to 3-0 at the No. 4 position when she posted a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory over Valencia.

The clinching point came from Gonzalez Sanchez after a three-set win at the No. 1 position. She took down Arnal 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 to make the score 4-0 in favor of SRU.

Slippery Rock also snagged a win at the No. 6 position when Lancaster posted a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Agarwal.

West Liberty won at No. 3 and No. 5 to account for the final score. Cliffe posted a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Sakhanova at No. 3 and Pena-Aceves earned a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-5 win over Slovak at No. 5.

Slippery Rock will look to extend its win streak to five matches with another key regional and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match Wednesday at Mercyhurst University.
