SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to three matches with a 7-0 Senior Day victory against Seton Hill University Friday at the SRU Tennis Courts.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division win improves The Rock's record to 9-6 overall and 3-1 inside the conference while the Griffins exit SRU at 4-9 overall and 2-3 in league matches.

SRU swept the doubles portion of Friday's match to set the tone for the team's third shutout of the year.

Freshmen
Dari Sakhanova and
Tina Slovak opened the contest with a 6-0 blanking of Alycia Derr and Sophia Solomon from the third flight for what was their 10th victory of the 2023 season. SRU's rookie tandem is yet to lose a league match.

Playing as partners in an official match for the first time,
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and
Georgie Lancaster posted a 6-1 first-flight win against Kendall McCluskey and Maria Pereda to capture the team doubles point for The Rock.

Nuria Martin Lopez and
Gabriela del Val del Toro closed out the doubles portion of Friday's match via a 6-2 victory in second-flight competition against Julianna Begley and Kasey Storkel as they improved to 16-9 as a team on the year.

Seton Hill did not field an entry in the sixth singles flight, giving Slippery Rock a 2-0 advantage at the start of the singles matches.

In the first completed contested singles bout, Martin Lopez was a 6-0, 6-0 winner out of the third flight against Begley. The win, her fifth in a row, improved Martin Lopez's record to 16-10 on the season.

Following Martin Lopez's win, Slovak sealed the team victory for The Rock by way of a 6-1, 6-0 result against Derr in the fifth flight.

With the team victory already secured, Slippery Rock closed the day with three more wins as Gonzalez Sanchez bested Storkel from the top flight (6-0, 6-1), Sakhanova downed McCluskey in the third slot (6-0, 6-2) and del Val del Toro beat Pereda (6-4, 6-3) in the second flight.

Gonzalez Sanchez's win pushed her winning streak to three straight and evened her record on the year to 13-13.

With two more wins added to her career ledger Friday, del Val del Toro now needs just seven. more victories over the remainder of the season to become the 14th athlete in program history to record 100 victories (singles+doubles).

Prior to Friday's match Slippery Rock recognized del Val del Toro and Gonzalez Sanchez as part of its 2023 Senior Day celebration.

Slippery Rock concludes its weekend 12 p.m. Saturday with an important regional contest against West Liberty University at Washington Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Both The Rock and Hilltoppers appeared in the first set of Atlantic Region rankings that were released by the NCAA DII Women's Tennis Committee earlier this week.
