Rock completes sweep of Lock Haven with 14-8 road win

Slippery Rock completed its first season sweep over Lock Haven with a 14-8 win on the road Wednesday in a key PSAC West match.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team picked up a 14-8 win on the road at Lock Haven University Wednesday evening in a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game from Charlotte E. Smith Field.

The win gives Slippery Rock its first road victory at Lock Haven since 1989 and The Rock's first single-season sweep over the Bald Eagles in the series history. Slippery Rock improves to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in PSAC West games with the win and stays in the third position in the PSAC West standings. Lock Haven slips to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in PSAC West games with the loss, which was just the second home loss this spring for the Bald Eagles.

Lock Haven outshot SRU 9-6 in the first quarter and led 2-1 after 15 minutes of play. The advantage could have been much larger after the opening period, but SRU goalie Gillian O'Rourke made six saves in the quarter to help quell the early push from the hosts.

Slippery Rock bounced back in the second quarter and outscored LHU 4-1 to take a 5-3 lead into halftime and then continued that momentum with a 5-2 push in the third quarter to finish the middle periods with a 9-3 edge in scoring.

Lock Haven scored three goals in the final period, but Slippery Rock netted four to comfortably put the game away.

The Rock posted advantages of 33-25 in total shots and 16-13 in ground balls, while LHU managed a 13-12 edge in draw controls.

O'Rourke finished the game with 12 saves to improve her record to 6-3 this season.

Slippery Rock got goals from eight different players and had seven different players tally at least two points. Charleigh Rondeau led the way with four points on two goals and two assists. Rondeau also grabbed six draw controls and three ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.

Olivia Fox and Lauren Searles each scored two goals and handed out one assist and Leora Owings scored one goal and handed out two assists. Sydney Ulmer, Ida Modin and Camryn Whipple all tallied two goals and Victoria Ziemba scored one goal to round out the scorers.

Lock Haven was led by a game-high four goals from Josey Shaffer. Dana Mirigliano made 11 saves in goal and Ally Weaver pulled down four draw controls.
