SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten at home this spring with a 17-9 victory over Lock Haven University Wednesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The highlight of the day came early in the opening period when senior captain Charleigh Rondeau pulled down her first of a game-high 11 draw controls to move her into sole possession of the SRU all-time career record. With half the season still to go, Rondeau now has 282 career draw controls and has surpassed the previous career record of 271 that was set by Lauren Laubach in 2013. Rondeau finished the game with one goal, two ground balls and one caused turnover to go with the 11 draw controls.

Slippery Rock led 7-6 at halftime after an entertaining and back-and-forth first half that included multiple lead changes. The Rock then opened the second half with a 4-1 run in the third quarter and outscored the Bald Eagles 10-3 over the second half to pull away for a convincing victory. The win improves SRU to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in PSAC West games this spring and keeps The Rock unbeaten at home with a 4-0 record. Lock Haven slips to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in PSAC West games with the loss.

A relentless ride when Lock Haven was attempting to set up possessions was key to the SRU success Wednesday as Slippery Rock was credited with 16 caused turnovers and limited the Bald Eagles to just 17-of-28 on clear attempts. LHU committed a total of 25 turnovers in the game.

Slippery Rock complemented that defense with a total of 36 shots on the attacking end to post a 36-25 advantage in shots. The Rock also managed an 18-12 advantage in the draw circle and went 7-of-14 on free position shots. Lock Haven put up a 25-22 edge in ground balls and went 3-for-7 on free position attempts.

SRU was paced by three players that tallied at least a hat trick in the game. Brooke Wisniewski led the way with five goals and one assist while Lauren Searles scored five goals. Rachel Mahoney chipped in three goals and Ida Modin scored two goals.

Rondeau netted one goal and Krysta Frankowski scored one goal and handed out one assist to cap the goal scorers. Leora Owings dished out two assists and Olivia Fox and Maddie Blazey each handed out one assist to round out the point scorers.

Amelia Nitsche posted a team-high three caused turnovers to lead the defense, while Hailey Ohlsen and Owings each tallied two caused turnovers.

Gillian O'Rourke played one of her strongest games of the season in goal to pick up the win and improve her record to 3-1 on the season. She allowed nine goals and tallied 12 saves while also grabbing a team-high five ground balls.

Lock Haven got two goals and one assist from Emma Williams and one goal and two assists from Josey Shaffer. Dana Mirigliano made 14 saves in goal and Nadia Baskot recorded a game-high five caused turnovers to go along with four ground balls and one goal.

Slippery Rock will look to continue its unbeaten start at home when Indiana University (Pa.) visits Saturday for a 1 p.m. PSAC West game. The Rock will be raising funds for mental health awareness and Morgan's Message at that game. For more information about Morgan's Message, click HERE.
