Rock splits again on day three in Florida

The Slippery Rock softball team earned its third split at The Spring Games with a win over American International to start the day and a loss to Molloy in its second game

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University softball team earned its third split at The Spring Games with a win over American International College to start the day and a loss to Molloy University in its second game Monday in Florida.
 
The Rock (4-8) defeated the Yellow Jackets (0-5) 5-3 in their first contest of the day before falling 9-1 to the Lions (7-5) in game two.
 
GAME ONE: SRU 5 – AIC 3 
Slippery Rock scored one in the bottom of the second inning and two more in the bottom of the third to jump out to a 3-0 lead on AIC. The Yellow Jackets got one back in the fourth inning, but SRU tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning to push the advantage out to 5-1. AIC saw its seventh inning rally plate two runs before The Rock closed out the 5-3 win.
 
Arielle Brown reached base four times in the game with one hit and three walks. She tallied two RBI and one run scored to pace the office. Erin Gardner went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored, while Cami Fisk and Alexsa Hurd each had one hit and one RBI. Fisk also plated one run, as did Julia Montie, who finished with one hit.
 
Kelsi Anderson allowed six hits and three run while striking out eight batters through the first six innings. Chloe Sharman faced three batters while allowing no hits and no runs in the seventh inning to preserve the victory for Anderson and earn her third save of the seaon.
 
GAME TWO: MC 9 – SRU 1 (5 innings)
A dominant six-run fourth inning gave Molloy a lead it would never surrender as the Lions went on to hold SRU to only one run in a 9-1 victory.
 
Regan Hozak, Emma Kenndey and Alyssa Sheely compiled SRU's three hits of the contest with one each. Hozak drove in The Rock's lone RBI while Kennedy scored the lone run.
 
Chloe Sharman was the pitcher of record after allowing seven runs, two of which were earned, on five hits while striking out one batter over 3.1 innings pitched before giving way to Claire Zimmerman.
 
Zimmerman, in a relief appearance, allowed two total runs, one earned run and allowed just one hit to go along with one strikeout.
 
The Lion's offense was paced by Chrissie Huhn who went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI as well as Alex Burns who was 1-for-2 while driving in three runs. Brianna Macias (4-1) took the win after surrendering just one run on three hits over five innings.
 
Slippery Rock enters the second half of its time at The Spring Games with games against Saint Michael's College and D'Youville University Tuesday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Sleepy Hollow Complex in Leesburg, Florida.
