Â
SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUTÂ
Slippery Rock dropped both games in its non-conference doubleheader at Shepherd University with a 9-1 six-inning loss in game one and 5-3 defeat in game two.
Â
PACING THE PITCHING STAFF
A trio of Slippery Rock's pitchers have made at least three appearances over its first six games of the season in
Kelsi Anderson (1-1),
Chloe Sharman (0-1) and
Claire Zimmerman (0-3).
Â
Anderson leads the staff in the circle with a 2.77 ERA while having pitched a rotation high 17.2 innings with 23 strikeouts. Anderson has walked only nine batters so far this season while opponents are hitting just .227 off of her.
In two starts this season, Zimmerman has struck out six batters over 13.1 innings of work while claiming a 4.73 ERA and .273 batting average against.
Â
When entering the circle as a relief pitcher, Sharman has done good a job limiting any potential damage in terms of runners left on the base from SRU's starter. Just over 33 percent of inherited runners have scored with Sharman coming out of The Rock's bullpen in the last two seasons.
Â
Sharman has pitched six innings over three appearances this season with four strikeouts.
Â
FIVE FINGER DISCOUNT
Arielle Brown, in just six games this season, already has more stolen bases (5) than Slippery Rock's season leader from the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Â
CRUNCH TIME HITS
Cami Fisk and
Alexsa Hurd have proven to come in clutch when SRU needs it most. In two out situations this season both batters are 3-for-7 at the plate with Hurd having driven in five two-out RBI and Fisk plating two.
Â
Additionally, Fisk and Hurd are a combined 7-of-15 (.467) with runners in scoring position and 10-for-25 (.400) with runners on base overall.
Â
STILL STREAKING
Multiple Rock players enter The Spring Games holding onto a streak in at least one statistic. When it comes to hitting, Fisk is currently on a six-game streak while in reached bases Fisk, Hurd and Brown all have done so in six consecutive games.
Â
MAKE WAY FOR MANSFIELD
Aubrey Mansfield is compiling an impressive freshman campaign at The Rock after appearing in all six games with four starts. Mansfield has tallied four hits, two of which were doubles, three RBI and six total bases. When put in high pressure situations, Mansfield has excelled as she is 2-for-2 this season when the bases are loaded and 2-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
Â
IN THE BATTERS BOX
Joining Mansfield as Rock offensive leaders are Fisk who bats .381 with team-highs of eight hits and seven RBI to go along with three runs scored and one home run. Hurd follows batting .350 with seven hits, six RBI and roster-leads of two home runs and three doubles.
Â
Brown bats .278 with seven runs, five hits and one RBI in addition to drawing five walks and being hit by one pitch for a team-high .458 on-base percentage.
Â
Rounding out SRU's top offensive performers early on has been
Julia Montie, who has hit .400 (4-for-10) with two runs and one RBI over four starts.
Â
WELCOME BACK TO FLORIDA
Slippery Rock most recently played in The Spring Games during the 2022 season as it concluded the trip 3-5 with wins over Le Moyne College, Saint Michael's College and Post University.
Â
Erin Gardner and
Mackenzie Freeman paced the SRU offense a season ago as the pair went 15-for-47 and totaled 11 RBI, eight runs and two home runs over the Florida trip.
Â
In the circle, Anderson led The Rock pitching staff with two wins and 24 strikeouts while walking just eight over 22.2 innings of work at The Spring Games.
