SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Ursuline College, 70-46, Saturday at Morrow Field House.

The Rock open their season with an 0-1 record, while the Arrows remained unbeaten, improving to a 4-0 start to the year.

True freshman
Regan Atkins led the way for Slippery Rock tallying 13 points and seven rebounds on top of her two steals.
Kristina Donza also contributed 13 points and two steals, while
Emily Venick claimed a team-high three assists coupled with her two steals.

Slippery Rock was quickly confronted with an uphill fight, allowing Ursuline the first seven points of the contest. The Arrows continued to fly early, increasing their advantage to a 22-4 margin by the end of the first quarter by going 5-of-8 from 3-point range and shooting 57.1 percent overall.

The Rock kept pace in the second quarter, as both sides added 13 points to their respective tallies.
Endya Robinson kicked off the period with an impressive and-one conversion, allowing a quick 8-4 run for The Rock.

SRU went into the half trailing, 35-17, as Ursuline wrapped up its opening 20 minutes by shooting 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) from the floor.

The Rock again took advantage of a quick start in the third quarter, going on a quick 9-1 burst to cut the lead to 36-26. The Arrows answered late in the third quarter, heading into the final period with a 53-30 edge.

Slippery Rock was outscored in the fourth quarter, 17-16, not cutting back into Ursuline's eventual 70-46 difference.

Ursuline was led by Riley Stopp, who totaled 16 points while shooting 6-of-10. Madison Cloonan found herself reeling in 11 rebounds, while Alexis Frazee and Sophia Kline piled on 15 and 12 points, respectively.

The Arrows shot 28-of-52 (53.8 percent) from the hardwood, going 8-of-21 (38.1 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Rock concluded their season opener shooting 18-of-53 (34 percent), going 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from distance. The Rock was outrebounded, 35-26, buth held an edge in offensive rebounds, 8-6.

Slippery Rock will return to action for an exhibition game at Division I Wright State University 7 p.m. Monday.
