Rock defeated in exhibition battle at Wright State

The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team fell in an 82-45 result against its second Division I opponent of the year in Wright State Monday on the road.

DAYTON, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team fell in an 85-42 result against its second Division I opponent of the year in Wright State University Monday on the road.

While the result did not affect The Rock's 0-1 overall mark on the season, the 43-point win counted for Wright State, a team that competes out of the Horizon League. With the victory, the Raiders improved to 3-2.

Regan Atkins, who impressed with 13 points last week in her freshman debut against Ursuline College, rose to the occasion yet again with 16 points and five rebounds against the Raiders.

Both Kristina Donza and Endya Robinson reached double-digits scoring 10 points apiece. Robinson, who earned four of The Rock's eight steals on the evening, joined Kaylin Venick in posting a team-high six rebounds each.

Slippery Rock found itself going toe-to-toe with the Raiders after scoring on its opening possession and leading, 2-0. Deryn Moye shined bright on the big stage early on, kicking off the night with a five-point opening quarter.

SRU's 19-12 deficit after the first quarter grew to 39-23 by halftime, as Wright State shot an even 50 percent (14-of-28) from the floor in the first half.

Slippery Rock put up 11 more points in the third quarter, allowing 16 from the Raiders. The Wright State attack took off in the fourth quarter, ending the game on a 20-2 run in the final seven minutes.

The Rock ended the night shooting 16-of-52 in total (30.8 percent) compared to Wright State's 25-of-57 (43.9 percent). From 3-point range, SRU went 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) while allowing the Raiders to go 11-of-26 (42.3 percent) from deep.

The Raiders also found the upper hand from the free throw line, shooting 21-of-24 (87.5 percent). Slippery Rock converted 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from the stripe.

After an additional week of preparation, The Rock will roll back into their regular season with a three-game road trip beginning 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Malone University. Slippery Rock defeated the Pioneers a year ago at home, 60-58.
