EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference road game to No. 1 East Stroudsburg University, 4-1, Saturday.

The league loss drops The Rock's record to 2-9 overall and 0-4 inside the PSAC while the top-ranked Warriors improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference games.

Hilary Hoffman accounted for Slippery Rock's goal as the freshman tallied her third score of the season. 11 games into her rookie year, Hoffman has now compiled a team-high of seven points on three goals and one assist in addition to having registered a Rock-best 14 shots on goal.

Grace Maynard rounded out The Rock's offensive leaders with one shot on target while goalkeeper
Grace Burker paced the defense with 11 saves, marking her second consecutive contest with a double-digit save total.

East Stroudsburg scored one goal in each of the opening three quarters before Hoffman helped SRU avoid the shutout in the 47th minute as she opened the fourth quarter by collecting a loose ball in the middle of East Stroudsburg's zone and slipping a shot past goalkeeper Amy Supey.

The remainder of the fourth quarter was a scoreless affair until East Stroudsburg added its final goal of the game with just six seconds left in regulation to close out the 4-1 victory.

Jady van Gils and Kerry Kaufman recorded matching one-goal, one-assist days to lead the Warriors which also held team advantages over The Rock in total shots (27-3), shots on goal (15-2) and penalty corners (20-1).

Slippery Rock returns home to host Mansfield University in PSAC competition 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.
