SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost a home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game to No. 7 Mansfield, 5-1, Tuesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Tuesday's result moves The Rock's record to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the PSAC while the nationally ranked Mounties improve to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in league contests.

Mansfield earned the win by scoring four consecutive goals over the opening three quarters of competition to put the game out of reach entering the fourth quarter.

Slippery Rock avoided the shutout thanks to a
Megan Rude goal in the 49th minute. Rude scored her first goal of the season by corralling a loose ball that was the result of a stopped
Hilary Hoffman attempt and flipping a shot into the back left of the cage at 48:31.

The Mounties went on to add a fifth goal nine minutes later to secure the four-goal victory.

SRU finished the game with four shots, two of which came from Hoffman in addition to Rude's goal and a
Samantha Karmonick attempt.

Grace Burker made 10 saves for SRU while playing all 60 minutes of regulation.

For the game, Mansfield held advantages over SRU in total shots (20-4), shots on goal (15-3) and penalty corners (16-3). Alex Esterling was credited with three goals to lead Mansfield.

Slippery Rock continues its PSAC schedule 12 p.m. Saturday against No. 2 Shippensburg University.
