SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost to No. 2 Shippensburg University, 7-1, Saturday in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game.

Saturday's result moves The Rock's record to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in league play while the nationally ranked Raiders improve to 12-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in PSAC contests.

Samantha Karmonick scored her first goal of the season to pace The Rock's efforts Saturday. Leslie Colliver also tallied her first point of 2023 courtesy of an assist on Karmonicks's goal.

Bailee Christman added two shots on goal and Hilary Hoffman rounded out SRU's top offensive performers with one attempt that went on target as well.

Goalkeeper Grace Burker stopped seven shots while playing all 60 minutes.

Slippery Rock played Shippensburg to a scoreless tie in the first quarter, but Shippensburg scored three goals over the opening eight minutes of the second quarter to take a 3-0 first-half lead SRU could never recover from.

Shippensburg went on to score four consecutive goals in the second half before Karmonick took Colliver's pass on a penalty corner and converted her only shot of the day to help The Rock avoid the shutout with a goal in the 59th minute en route to the 7-1 final.

The Raiders concluded the game holding advantages over The Rock in total shots (20-4), shots on goal (14-4) and penalty corners (8-3). Tess Jedeloo registered four goals for Shippensburg.

Slippery Rock steps out of conference competition to host Roberts Wesleyan University 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on International Students Day at The Rock.
