SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team hosted Clarion for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match Tuesday at Morrow Field House, losing to the Golden Eagles in three sets 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.
Â
The divisional setback moves The Rock's record to 11-11 overall and 3-6 inside the PSAC West while Clarion, which received votes in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 poll, improves to 19-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in conference matches with the win.

The Rock's attack efforts were led by the quartet of

Callie Chevalier,
Alayna Chizmar and
Lauren VonderHaar.
Â
Selfridge guided the group with nine kills while Chevalier added eight kills as well as seven digs followed by Chizmar with seven kills and VonderHaar with five kills in addition to two blocks.

Chelsie Wheeler matched VonderHaar's block total and
Kate Lachendro made a team-high nine digs to aid the defense.
Â
SRU jumped out to a 16-12 lead in the opening set before Clarion methodically began chipping away at The Rock's lead, eventually completely erasing the deficit to take a 19-18 lead and forcing a Slippery Rock timeout.
Â
The Rock and Golden Eagles went on to alternate points coming out of the break with Slippery Rock pulling even with Clarion at 21-21. However, Clarion was able to finish off the game by taking the final four points for a 25-21 win.
Â
Clarion and Slippery Rock switched roles in the second set with the Golden Eagles coming out the aggressors to take a sizable 18-10 lead. While Slippery Rock was able to trim its deficit down to as little as three points it could never quite rally all the back as Clarion earned a 25-19 victory.
Â
Slippery Rock appeared poised to force a fourth set after battling its way to a 19-16 advantage in the third, but Clarion once again finished strong by rattling off a 9-2 match-deciding run that resulted in a 25-21 third-set win.
Â
Clarion ended the match holding advantages over The Rock in kills (40-32), attack percentage (.250-.150), aces (4-3), total blocks (11-5) and digs (42-26). Cassidy Snider led Clarion with 13 kills and three blocks.
Â
Tuesday's game also served as The Rock's 17th annual Dig for the Cure match. SRU raised money for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition through donations, raffles, a bake sale and a serving contest.
Â
In the last 16 years, Slippery Rock volleyball has raised over $30,000 for breast cancer research and treatment.
