Rock rolls to 4-0 win over Clarion

Slippery Rock goalkeeper Emma Yoder broke the program’s all-time save record while SRU cruised to a 4-0 shutout victory over PSAC West opponent Clarion Wednesday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University goalkeeper Emma Yoder broke the program's all-time save record while SRU cruised to a 4-0 shutout victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent Clarion Wednesday at James Egli Field.

The win improves The Rock's overall record to 3-2-5 and 2-2-4 in the PSAC West while Clarion moves to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the division.

Yoder tallied five saves over 90 minutes bringing her career save total to 217 passing Kylie Downs (2015-18) and becoming The Rock's all-time leader in saves. Yoder collected her second straight shutout victory of the year and 24th of her career.

Four different players accounted for SRU's scoring surge. Kayla Swope and Ashley Rea each netted their second scores of the season while Sydney Patrick and Skylar Munnikhuysen tallied their first goals of the year. Julia Mascaro dished out two assists while Swope, Maddie DeLucio and Kylee Kosek each made one assist.

Slippery Rock started its offensive efforts 13 minutes into the first half when Mascaro sent a pinpoint pass that Swope lofted over Clarion goalkeeper Alex Velez for an early 1-0 lead.

SRU continued its attack as it took eight more shots, four being on target, over the remainder of the half but found no luck entering halftime with just a one-score lead.

Coming out of the break, Rea found the back of the net, beating Velez to a through ball sent by DeLucio, giving The Rock a 2-0 advantage with 20 minutes remaining in the contest.

Continuing to control possession, Slippery Rock scored its third goal just 10 minutes later when Munnikhuysen netted a cross-goal shot assisted by Swope, giving SRU a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The Rock tacked on an insurance goal at 84:11 with a beautiful series of passes from Kosek to Swope and finally to Patrick who landed a shot over the head of Velez en route to an SRU 4-0 win.

Through 90 minutes, Slippery Rock held advantages in total shots (26-10), shots on goal (13-5) and corners (8-1).

The Rock travels to Greensburg, Pennsylvania for a PSAC West contest against Seton Hill University 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
