Rock beats Seton Hill, 1-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout victory when it defeated Seton Hill, 1-0, on the road Saturday.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team earned its third consecutive shutout victory when it defeated Seton Hill University, 1-0, on the road Saturday.

The win improves SRU's record to 4-2-5 overall and 3-2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division while Seton Hill falls to 6-2-3 overall and 4-2-3 in the division.

Slippery Rock collected their sixth shutout of the year in addition to holding its opponents scoreless over three straight matches for the first time since the end of the 2018 season.

Jaime Dermotta led the way for the SRU attack netting the game's lone goal while Morgan Sarver recorded an assist. Dermotta and Sarver each placed two shots on goal while Sydney Patrick and Ashley Rea landed one shot on target apiece.

Dermotta netted her second goal of the season while Sarver, a freshman, dished out her first collegiate assist.

Emma Yoder tallied her 25th career shutout after making three saves over 90 minutes of action.

The Slippery Rock attack wasted no time putting Griffin goalkeeper Grace Kenyon to work placing three shots on goal through the opening 15 minutes of the contest.

At 15:54, Dermotta collected a deflected shot by Sarver and landed what would be the game's only goal past Kenyon.

Seton Hill finished out the remainder of the first half looking for the equalizer through its four corner attempts, but found no such luck, heading into halftime trailing The Rock 1-0.

Coming out of the break, SRU continued its offensive efforts placing two additional shots to the hands of Kenyon over 21 minutes. Seton Hill then had an offensive surge of its own for the remaining minutes of the contest scattering five shots, two of which were on target.

However, the Griffins were unable to even the score as The Rock's backline and Yoder came up big when the contest needed it most, successfully defended each attack, en route to a 1-0 SRU win.

For the game, Slippery Rock held advantages over Seton Hill in total shots (12-8), shots on goal (6-3) and corners (6-4). Saturday's contest marked the third time this season The Rock has held its opponent to no more than three shots on goal.
