Rock and Gannon finish in scoreless tie

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team played PSAC West leader Gannon to a scoreless draw Wednesday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team played Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division leader Gannon University to a scoreless draw Wednesday at James Egli Field.
 
The tie moves SRU's overall record to 4-2-6 and conference mark to 3-2-5 while Gannon's record becomes 7-2-3 overall and 6-1-3 in the PSAC West.
 
The Rock's offensive efforts were led by Ashely Rea with four shots, landing two on goal. Kayla Swope took three shots and Sydney Patrick two, each placing one on target.
 
Rounding out SRU's shot takers was Morgan Sarver with one on goal and Libby Zacharyasz one shot.
 
Emma Yoder earned her seventh shutout of the season while making five saves over 90 minutes to preserve the tie.
 
The Golden Knight offense opened the contest by testing Yoder with a shot on goal just 26 seconds into the first half that was successfully saved. SRU returned the attack placing two of its first three shots to GU goalkeeper Kennedy Solymosi over the first 10 minutes, with no luck.
 
The Gannon attack took over for the remaining 25 minutes of the first half, taking six shots, three of which were blocked and two on goal, while holding The Rock to just one scoring attempt to enter halftime knotted 0-0.

Coming out of the break, Slippery Rock was the aggressor, as Rea posted SRU's best shot at the game-winning goal when she collected a deflected shot by Swope and chipped an attempt that went just wide of the net.
 
The back-and-forth action ensured into the dwindling moments of the match as the Golden Knights and The Rock continued their search of the game's first goal, each firing four additional shots. However, neither team was able to convert, ending the contest in a 0-0 tie.
 
For the match, Gannon held advantages over Slippery Rock in total shots (12-11) and corners (5-3) while each team landed five shots on goal.
 
Slippery Rock remains home to host Mercyhurst University 3 p.m. Saturday for Rock the Weekend at James Egli Field.
