EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory over Edinboro in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division road match Saturday.
The win improves The Rock's record to 2-2-5 overall and 1-2-4 in the conference while Edinboro moves to 1-5-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the division.
Emma Yoder recorded her 23rd career shutout and first shutout victory of the season after making five saves over 90 minutes.
SRU was led by Maddie DeLucio who scored her first goal of the 2022 season and the lone goal of the match. Ashley Rea ended the contest with one assist and two shots, both placed on target.
Rounding out the offensive attack was Sydney Patrick and Morgan Sarver each with two shots and one on goal. Skylar Munnikhuysen took two shots while Kylee Kosek and Jamie Dermotta tallied one shot each.
The Rock and Fighting Scots played an evenly matched first half with each team taking six and five shots respectively, but SRU landed four of its attempts on goal while Edinboro had just one shot on target. Neither goalkeeper wavered as the match entered halftime knotted 0-0.
Coming out of the break, Slippery Rock and Edinboro traded shots for just over 25 minutes before Rea played a ball to DeLucio who landed a shot past Fighting Scot goalkeeper Kaylee Lauriel to give SRU a one-score lead.
The Slippery Rock offense proved to be content with the one-goal advantage as it did not take another shot over the remainder of the contest.
The SRU backline came up big when it was needed most, successfully defending the final five Edinboro shots, three of which were on target, to secure the 1-0 shutout victory.
For the game, the Fighting Scots held advantages over Slippery Rock in total shots (13-11) and shots on goal (7-5) while both teams earned four corners.
The Rock returns home to host Clarion in a PSAC West matchup for their American Heart Association and Bobby McGraw Memorial game 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at James Egli Field.
