ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award List

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University baseball team was selected as a recipient of the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, based on the squad's outstanding cumulative GPA during the 2021-22 academic year.

The ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award honors collegiate and high school baseball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Slippery Rock concluded 2021-22 with a team GPA of 3.166, its third-highest mark over the last 11 years. 18 SRU baseball student-athletes maintained a GPA of at least 3.25 last year including

Joe Ehland,
Jesse Gillenwater,
Connor Hamilton,
Evan Knaus,
Andy McClymonds,
Eddie Morris,
Braden Olson,

Christian Seelhorst,
Joel Spishock.
Luke Trueman,
Mark Wilbur and
Josh Wollerman.

Of The Rock's academic standouts, Rossman and Wollerman maintained perfect 4.0 GPAs while Hamilton was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team and the Division II CoSIDA Baseball Academic All-American of the Year.

Slippery Rock ranked sixth out of the 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference institutions that sponsor baseball, and fourth among all Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) institutions.

All told, 87 Division II teams earned ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award honors. SRU was also one of 28 schools in the 56-team NCAA Tournament field from a year ago to earn the recognition from the ABCA.

Not just standouts in the classroom, Slippery Rock also had a stellar 2022 campaign on the field as it went 33-18 overall while qualifying for both the PSAC and NCAA tournaments. The 33 victories represented SRU's highest win total dating back to the 2009 season.
