WEXFORD, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Goldey-Beacom College Saturday at the PA Tennis Academy in Wexford, Pennsylvania.

The non-conference victory improved The Rock's record to 8-5 overall while the Lightning drop to 5-6 following the loss.

Slippery Rock swept the doubles portion of Saturday's match before capturing five of six singles decisions en route to its fifth win against a fellow Division II school this season.

SRU opened the match with back-to-back 6-4 wins from the second and third flights to secure the doubles point as Teddi Isherwood and Gabriela del Val del Toro beat Kristin Radeke and Andrea Fresneda while Georgie Lancaster and Zoe Heed partnered to down Imane Van Veen and Elin Anderson for their sixth straight win.

In the closest doubles bout of the day, Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and Lois Page outlasted Salome Lang and Maria Bruno for a 7-6 victory in the top flight.

del Val del Toro earned The Rock's second point of the match by way of a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles against Andrea Fresneda before Long cut SRU's lead to 2-1 via a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win against Page in the first flight.

However, any thoughts of a Goldey-Beacom comeback were promptly dashed as SRU proceeded to register wins from the second and fifth flights to clinch the team victory as Gonzalez Sanchez earned a three-set win against Radeke and Isherwood bested Anderson 6-4, 6-4.

SRU closed the afternoon with wins from the fourth and sixth flights where Nuria Martin Lopez defeated Bruno 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 and Heed beat Macy Hendin-Walker 6-1, 6-1. Martin Lopez's triumph pushed her win streak to six matches.

Slippery Rock continues non-conference competition 10:30 a.m. Sunday against West Chester University at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
