Rock beats West Chester for third straight win

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team defeated West Chester, 6-1, Sunday to increase its winning streak to a season-high three matches.

WEXFORD, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team defeated West Chester University, 6-1, Sunday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
 
The victory improved SRU's record to 9-5 on the season and marked the team's third consecutive win. Meanwhile, West Chester saw its record fall to 7-6 following the non-conference loss.
 
As has been the case for the duration of The Rock's current winning streak, SRU's doubles teams were once again perfect Sunday.
 
Teddi Isherwood and Gabriela del Val del Toro opened the contest with a 6-1 win against Elaina Lee and Gabriella Lerario from the second flight followed by SRU's top doubles pairing of Lois Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez securing the team point by way of a 6-2 victory over Davica Massaro and Tori Alexander.
 
In third-flight doubles play, Georgie Lancaster and Zoe Heed won their seventh straight bout after downing Yuno Oe and Alyssa Skulsky, 6-2.
 
Slippery Rock carried its doubles momentum over to the singles portion of the match and quickly earned three straight wins to clinch the team victory.
 
del Val del Toro turned in the first win - a 6-1, 6-1 besting of Lee in the third flight – while Page captured a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Alexander in the first flight to set up a matching-clinching 6-1, 6-1 win by Isherwood over Lerario from the fifth slot.
 
Gonzalez Sanchez and Nuria Martin Lopez also tallied wins Sunday as Gonzalez Sanchez defeated Massaro 6-2, 6-3 in the second flight with Martin Lopez beating Oe 6-0, 6-4 for her seventh consecutive victory.
 
West Chester avoided the shutout when Skulsky closed the day with a tight 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 victory from the sixth flight against Heed.
 
Page's singles win pushed her career total to 114, the ninth most in program history. Isherwood exits the week at 17-4 while del Val del Toro has posted a team-best 18 singles wins this season.
 
Slippery Rock returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition with three matches in consecutive days when it hosts Mercyhurst April 13 before taking to the road for contests on April 14 at Indiana (Pa.) and April 15 against Seton Hill.
