Robenolt named Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week

Slippery Rock baseball standout Alex Robenolt was named the NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University baseball standout Alex Robenolt was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Tuesday's award, the first such of Robenolt's career, comes on the heels of the Danville, Pennsylvania native being named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Week following his performance in The Rock's four-game series sweep of Saint Anselm College last weekend.

Slippery Rock, which was ranked No. 22 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper top-30 poll, earned the series sweep behind 5-1, 22-0, 7-1 and 18-8 victories over the Hawks. Robenolt led the way for SRU in the convincing sweep by hitting .611 (11-for-18) with six runs scored, four home runs and 10 RBI over the four games.

Additionally, Robenolt slugged 1.389 with six of his 11 hits in the series going for extra bases as he also produced a pair of doubles in addition to his four home runs. The highlight of Robenolt's week came in the form of a 4-for-5, three-run, two-home run, six-RBI, two-double showing as part of a 22-0 win by The Rock in game three of the series.

Robenolt has started all 10 games for The Rock this season and is hitting .447 (17-for-38) with nine runs scored, four home runs and 13 RBI. All told, Robenolt has produced nine extra-base hits via four doubles, one triple and his aforementioned home run total on the way to slugging .921 with a .476 on-base percentage.

On the national stage, Robenolt currently ranks seventh in Division II in slugging percentage, 16th in hits per game (1.70) and 22nd in batting average.

As the NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, Robenolt now advances to the national ballot with the chance to become The Rock's first National Hitter of the Week since Connor Hamilton did so a season ago.

A mainstay in SRU's lineup over the last three years, Robenolt has started 67 of his 77 career games played since coming to The Rock and is a career .365 batter with 41 runs, six home runs and 41 RBI. He was recognized as a first team All-PSAC West performer a year ago and was named to the NCBWA preseason All-Atlantic Region Team this season.

Winners of its first 10 games, the nationally ranked Rock will open PSAC West competition with a four-game series against Indiana University (Pa.). The Rock will host the Crimson Hawks for a doubleheader Friday at Jack Critchfield Park before heading to IUP for two games Saturday. First pitch on both days is set for 1 p.m.
