Rock blanks George Fox, 7-0

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team ended its spring break trip in fine fashion Saturday morning with a 7-0 shutout against George Fox in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team ended its spring break trip in fine fashion Saturday morning with a 7-0 shutout against George Fox University at the Beach and Tennis Center in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
 
SRU exits is annual trip south with a 5-3 overall record while George Fox drops to 8-5 on the year with the loss.
 
Slippery Rock quickly dashed out to a 1-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches.
 
Gabriela del Val del Toro and Teddi Isherwood downed Cassey Hitch and Kalli Wiker 6-1 before Lois Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez clinched the doubles point courtesy of a 6-3 win versus Ellie Mangan and Olivia Morris.

Zoe Heed and Georgie Lancaster rounded out The Rock's trio of doubles wins by beating Danielle Brown and Emily McDonald, 6-2.
 
Isherwood proceeded to push SRU's edge out to 2-0 as she opened the singles portion of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Abigail Bond from the fifth flight. The win stretched Isherwood's winning streak to six matches and her overall record in 2021-22 to 12-3.
 
del Val del Toro then added another point to The Rock's tally when she picked up her team-leading 13th win of the season by way of a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Morris in third-flight competition.
 
Slippery Rock went on to clinch the match thanks to a victory from the first flight where Page beat Mangan (6-3, 6-1). Page ends the weekend with a 12-6 record so far this season.
 
The remainder of the match saw Rock victories from Gonzalez Sanchez against Brown in the second flight (6-0, 6-4) and Nuria Martin Lopez over Brenna Vaderyacht from the fourth flight (6-1, 6-4) with Heed defeating Hitch in the sixth flight (6-2, 6-2) to cap off the day.
 
Slippery Rock now turns its attention to its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opener March 26 on the road against regional rival Indiana University (Pa.).
