Rock rolls to shutout win vs. Shepherd

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team recorded a 7-0 shutout of Shepherd Tuesday morning on day two of The Rock’s spring break trip in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team recorded a 7-0 shutout of Shepherd University Tuesday morning at the Van Der Meer Tennis Complex on day two of The Rock's spring break trip in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
 
With the win, Slippery Rock's record improves to 4-2 on the season while Shepherd drops to 3-2 in 2021-22 following the loss.
 
Tuesday's match was never in doubt as Slippery Rock quickly recorded three 6-0 doubles victories followed by six decisive singles wins on the way to claiming the second shutout in the team's last two matches.
 
Lois Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez opened the match with a victory over Isabella Mascari and Ally Frushour in the first flight before Zoe Heed and Georgie Lancaster locked up the doubles point for The Rock courtesy of a third flight win against Quinn Madden and Claire Dean.
 
With the team doubles point already secured, The Rock's No. 2 doubles team of Teddi Isherwood and Gabriela del Val del Toro added to SRU's momentum with another win over Johnna Smith and Morgan Burner.
 
Heed started the singles portion of Tuesday's contest with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Dean in the fifth flight followed by a 6-1, 6-0 triumph by Isherwood in the fourth slot against Smith to give The Rock a 3-0 lead over the Rams. Isherwood's win was her fourth in as many matches.
 
Lancaster proceeded to provide Slippery Rock with the match-clinching victory by way of a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the sixth flight over Madden.
 
The remainder of the match featured wins by del Val del Toro against Frushour (6-0, 6-0) and Nuria Martin Lopez over Burner (6-1, 6-0) with Page finishing the day via a 6-0, 6-2 victory from the top flight against Mascari.
 
The wins by Page and del Val del Toro improve both competitors individual singles records this season to an impressive 11-5.
 
Slippery Rock continues its spring break trip 9:30 a.m. Wednesday against Division I foe George Mason University at the Van Der Meer Tennis Complex in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
