SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The Slippery Rock University softball team continues the opening half of the 2022 season with a 12-game slate at The Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida March 12-18.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT: Slippery Rock took three of four games in a road series at Glenville State University March 5-6.
 
STRONG START FOR ANDERSON: Kelsi Anderson (2-2, 4.14 ERA) posted a solid showing at Glenville State ending the weekend 2-0. Over 14 total innings of work Anderson allowed 14 hits, just four runs with only one being earned while striking out 15 batters and walking only four.
 
Anderson pitched one of the best games of her collegiate career March 5, completing a 6-0 shutout of the Pioneers, the third such of her career, while tying her career-high strikeout total with nine. Her efforts over the weekend earned her a PSAC West Pitcher of the Week honor.
 
Through five starts, Anderson has 22 strikeouts and a .269 opponent batting average in 23.2 innings pitched.
 
ROUNDING OUT THE STAFF: Chloe Sharman (0-2, 4.94 ERA) has struck out nine batters in 17 innings of work over three starts and one relief appearance. Opponents are hitting .269 off of Sharman so far this year.
 
Alexsa Hurd (0-1, 4.20 ERA) made her first collegiate save March 6 in SRU's 6-5 win over Glenville State. In two games and 6.2 innings pitched, the freshman has recorded seven strikeouts and a .269 batting average against.
 
Rounding out The Rock's pitching staff is Claire Zimmerman (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Over three relief appearances, 4.0 innings, opponents have managed just three hits and one unearned run to go with a meniscal .188 batting average. 
 
FREEMAN SWINGING FOR THE FENCES: Sophomore Mackenzie Freeman is off to a great start to the 2022 season. In eight games, Freeman has already hit three home runs this year, which is more than The Rock's season-leader from 2021.
 
Freeman bats .333 (7-for-21) in addition to holding the team-lead in RBI with 13 and total bases at 18. Of her seven hits this year, five have gone for extra bases courtesy of her home run total and a pair of doubles.
 
NEWCOMER INVOLVEMENT: The freshmen trio of Arielle Brown, Julia Montie and Julia Nutter continue to make their mark as offensive threats for SRU. In eight starts Brown has hit a team-high .385 (10-for-26) with eight runs scored and one RBI. In eight appearances, Montie has hit .300 (6-for-20) with one home run and one RBI.
 
Nutter is second for The Rock with six RBI and while she is currently batting just .167 she is tied for the team-lead in walks with Gardner at three to give her a .286 on-base percentage.
 
NO STRANGERS TO THE GAME: Rock veterans Erin Gardner and Cami Fisk round out the offensive charge. Gardner, just one of two players to have started all eight games this year, bats .296 (8-for-27) with six runs scored. Fisk hits .250 (4-for-16) and has drove in two RBI. The pair tie for the team-lead in doubles with three apiece.
 
A WARM WELCOME BACK TO FLORIDA: Slippery Rock most recently played in Winter Haven during the 2020 season for the Spring Games concluding the trip 4-8 with victories over University of Findlay, American International College, Assumption College and Southwest Minnesota State University.
 
Anna Villies and Regan Hozak aided in SRU's offense two seasons ago. The pair went 21-for-68 and totaled 10 runs and five RBI over Florida trip.
 
In the circle Sharman had one win at The Spring Games and struck out 20 batters over 22.6 innings of work while Zimmerman tallied five strikeouts in 8.4 innings pitched.
 
STREAKS: Freeman and Brown are currently on a hitting streak of seven followed by Montie and Emma Kennedy on a steak of three.
 
RECORDS WATCH: The duo of Anderson and Sharman both rank in the SRU's record book with the potential to advance by the end of the season. Sharman is currently 11th in career strikeouts (158), 13th in career innings pitched (229.1) and 19th in career wins (10). Anderson is 15th in career strikeouts (121).
