SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team suffered a 77-66 loss to Edinboro University Wednesday on Senior Night at Morrow Field House.

With the loss, The Rock's record moves to 11-16 overall and 6-15 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division while Edinboro improves to 13-10 overall and 11-9 in the conference. Despite the loss, SRU still finishes the season with a winning record of 7-6 at Morrow Field House this year.

Slippery Rock was led by
Kennedy Middleton who scored a career-high 24 points in addition to having five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Middleton shot an efficient 10-of-15 from the field overall and 3-of-5 from 3-point range while going a perfect 1-for-1 at the foul line.

The senior duo of
Daeja Quick and
Jamiyah Johnson, who were recognized prior to their final collegiate home games on Senior Night, rounded out SRU's leaders. Quick ended the contest with 19 points, four steals, two rebounds, one assist and one block while Johnson tallied a double-double of 16 points, 18 rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals. Seven of Johnson's 18 rebounds came on the offensive glass.

The Fighting Scots used a 14-0 run early in the first quarter, keeping The Rock scoreless for six minutes, leading to a 17-8 Edinboro advantage heading into the second quarter.

Middleton ignited The Rock through the second quarter scoring nine of their 17 points in the second period. Despite her strong effort, the Fighting Scots narrowly outscored SRU 19-17 to send The Rock into halftime trailing 36-25.

Coming out of the break, Slippery Rock acquired a much-needed momentum shift and went on an 11-0 run to pull even (38-38) with Edinboro with 6:33 left to play in the third. SRU and the Fighting Scots proceeded to trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter with Edinboro eventually clinging to a 47-46 advantage with one quarter to play.

Slippery Rock played close with Edinboro through the opening minutes of the fourth quarter trailing by just three points with 5:30 left to play. However, a 15-6 run by the Fighting Scots stretched its lead to 12 points with 1:16 left in the contest en route to a 77-66 victory.

Slippery Rock ended the night shooting 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field overall, 25 percent (5-of-20) from long range and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the charity stripe. The Rock forced Edinboro into 17 turnovers while committing 18 miscues of their own in addition to holding an advantage in points in the paint (44-28)

As a team, the Fighting Scots shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) from the floor, 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point range and 76 percent (19-of-25) from the foul line. Edinboro narrowly outrebounded SRU 42-41 in addition to leading in points off turnovers (19-8), second chance points (13-11) and fast break points (11-8).

Slippery Rock concludes its season on the road in Erie, Pennsylvania 1 p.m. Saturday against Mercyhurst University. SRU and the Lakers met one week ago on Feb. 16 resulting in a thrilling 75-73 overtime win for The Rock.
