OLEAN, N.Y. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team defeated St. Bonaventure University, 4-3, Sunday at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center in Olean, New York.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 2-1 on the season overall while the Bonnies drop to 0-9 in 2021-22. Sunday's victory served as SRU's first win in the all-time series against Division I St. Bonaventure, which competes out of the Atlantic 10 Conference and previously held a 10-0 record versus The Rock.

The 2021-22 campaign is shaping up to be a one of firsts for Slippery Rock as both of its victories this season have come against teams that SRU had never previously beat – The Rock also defeated Division III power Carnegie Mellon University for the first time in program history earlier in the season.

The highlight of the day for Slippery Rock belonged to Lois Page, who earned wins in both singles and doubles competition to record wins No. 100 and 101 of her career. Page is the 13th athlete in program history to eclipse the 100-win plateau.

With the majority of the season still to come, Page is already tied with Carla Corrochano Moracho (2014-18) and Melissa Labosco (1994-97) for 11th place on Slippery Rock's career win ledger.

Slippery Rock registered the victory over its Division I counterpart courtesy of strong singles play that enabled SRU to overcome losing the doubles point and, in the process, pull off the comeback victory.

Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez, the 25th-ranked doubles team in the nation, opened the match with a 6-2 victory over Amelia Haley and Andrea Roque.

However, the Bonnies were able to claim the doubles point after 6-3 wins from the second and third flights where Emily Stanley and Alexandra Jansson defeated Zoe Heed and Teddi Isherwood followed by Floor Lissone and Paula Velilla edging Georgie Lancaster and Gabriela del Val del Toro.

St. Bonaventure proceeded to jump ahead 2-0 after Lissone opened the singles portion of the match with a victory over Nuria Martin Lopez from the fourth flight.

Slippery Rock's rally began courtesy of wins from the third and first flights, respectively, as del Val del Toro downed Anastasia Gubanova 6-3, 6-2 for SRU's first point of the day while Page tallied her second win of the contest with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 comeback victory against Haley.

The Bonnies re-took the lead when Jansson narrowly edged Gonzalez Sanchez in the second flight 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, leaving any hopes of a Rock team victory to the back portion of SRU's singles rotation.

Heed then came through with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory from the sixth flight over Velilla to once again tie the score and thus leaving the deciding point to the fifth flight match between Isherwood and Stanley.

Things appeared bleak for Isherwood early on in the bout as Stanley took the opening set 6-3 while jumping out to a 5-2 lead in the second before The Rock's talented freshman mounted her comeback first by clawing all the way back to take the second set, 7-6, and promptly finishing off the contest with a 6-2 triumph in the tiebreaker to clinch the team win.

Slippery Rock will play its first dual match of the season against a fellow Division II team when it hosts Ashland University Feb. 26 in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
