Rock edged by Seton Hill, 56-52

Despite a second half surge, The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team fell 56-52 on the road to PSAC West co-leader Seton Hill Saturday.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Despite a second half surge, the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team fell 56-52 on the road to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division co-leader Seton Hill University Saturday.
 
With the loss The Rock falls to 10-12 overall and 5-11 in the PSAC West while Seton Hill improves to 20-7 overall and 14-4 in the conference.
 
Slippery Rock was led by Anyah Curd who scored a career-high 17 points as well as having seven rebounds and one block.
 
Rounding out the leaders were Jamiyah Johnson with a double-double of 11 points, 13 rebounds in addition to having a career-high six steals as well as two assists and one block. Kennedy Middleton tallied 10 points, six rebounds two assists and one steal.
 
Seton Hill scored 16 of the game's first 20 points to open up a 14-point lead The Rock could not recover from in the first two quarters as the Griffins took a 38-21 lead into halftime.
 
Coming out of the break Slippery Rock began its comeback attempt outscoring Seton Hill 18-8 in the third, trimming the SHU lead to seven (46-39), heading into the final 10 minutes.
 
The Rock and Griffins traded baskets for the opening minutes of the fourth quarter before SRU went on a 9-4 run to cut the deficit to just two points (54-52) via a Kennedy Middleton 3-pointer with 15 seconds to play.
 
However, SRU fell short of a comeback victory as Samantha Kosmacki made two free throws to extend the Seton Hill lead to two possessions with 12 seconds remaining en route to the 56-52 SHU victory.
 
 As a team, SRU shot 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the floor, 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from long range and 25 percent (1-of-4) from the foul line. Despite the loss, The Rock forced the Griffins into 15 turnovers while making 13 miscues of their own in addition to leading in second chance points (14-10).
 
Seton Hill ended the night shooting 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the floor, 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from 3-point range and 50 percent (9-of-18) from the charity stripe. SHU outrebounded The Rock 43-38 while also leading in points in the paint (38-26) and points off turnovers (10-7).
 
Slippery Rock travels to Indiana University (Pa.) for its second PSAC West test against the Crimson Hawks this season 7 p.m. Monday. IUP defeated SRU 67-58 earlier this month.
